  • Deadline: 1 Dec. 2012, review will continue until position is filled
  • any news?
  • Nope (16/1/13)
  • Anybody else hear the rumor that this is an inside hire?
    • The fact that the search committee has  taken 8 weeks and still no news suggests that this is not an inside hire. (22/1/13)
    • All eligible Canadian candidates have to be excluded first, so it takes a while
    • All candidates get considered. Citizenship laws don't slow down search committees much. Plenty of Canadian universities invite people for campus interviews three weeks after the deadline.
    • It could be a budget issue, or they already made invites for campus interviews and those people aren't on the wiki.
  • I'm confused. Has anybody heard anything? (31/1/13)
  • No one has heard anything - hence the descent into paranoid accusations.
  • Any news?  (2/4)
  • I would suggest that perhaps the "subject to final budgetary approval" part may be the cause of the delay. (07/02/2013)
    • I imagine you are right
    • Has the search been cancelled? (2/17)
    • To add to the previous question - has anyone actually tried to contact the dept to see what is up?
    • postings often say "subject to final budgetary approval" and this should not be seen as conclusive evidence that the job has been cancelled. In Canada, deans rarely open a job search unless they are certain they can pay for it. I think it is more likely that the search is delayed or that the three short-listed candidates (there are rarely long lists in Canada) don't use this site (2/18)
  • Snail-mail rejection (2/26)
    • Seconded: Bland but kind letter, no info about number of applicants. (2/26)
