Albion College (USA:MI) - Africa/Global South

  • Tenure-track assistant professor in global history with specializations in Africa and the Global South, to begin August 2022
  • The ability to teach transnational, gender, science/medical, and/or environmental topics is highly welcomed.
  • Teaching Load: 3/3 include an introductory survey in African history as well as mid-level and advanced courses on the Global South and other topics of the instructor’s choosing.. with one course every year contributing to an interdisciplinary program such as a First Year Seminar (FYS) or the Honors Program.

  • full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching in global history before 1500, with an expected start date of 1 July 2022
  • Fields and geographical specializations are open, but preference will be given to approaches that connect regions rather than perpetuate historical and historiographical insularity. Experience and expertise in auxiliary disciplines such as digital humanities or archaeology would be assets, but are not required.

  • Assistant Professor in the history of slavery, to begin Fall 2022.
  • We seek an historian who specializes in slavery in the Atlantic World, and whose scholarship and teaching foregrounds the lived experiences of enslaved persons. The department is especially interested in candidates whose work maps onto one or more of the thematic tracks organizing the department’s M.A. program: (1) Rights & Identity; (2) War & Violence; and (3) Encounters & Exchanges.
  • Teaching Load 3/3 The successful candidate will be expected to teach the first half of the United States history survey, as well as upper-division courses and graduate seminars in the history of slavery

  • tenure-track appointment in the history of the Black Diaspora in the Americas (1600-1800). The appointment for this position is intended to begin in September 2022
  • We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is engaged with the early Atlantic world.
  • Teaching: Although our department allows faculty to create course rosters focused on their teaching interests, we hope to attract applicants who are excited to teach courses in early North American history

  • tenure-track Assistant Professor of History with a focus on the Atlantic World beginning August 1, 2022
  • In keeping with the department’s increasing focus on interdisciplinary studies and global history, the candidate’s research and teaching interests should speak to global contexts and demonstrate the ability to provide a comparative perspective of the intersection among Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The Department is open to expertise in all themes, including (but not exclusively) histories of race, gender, and sexuality, and histories of trans-Atlantic slavery, migration, religion, trade, and empire.  Additional credentials in philosophy and/or religious studies are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Candidates must possess a PhD in History or a related field that demonstrates expertise of the Atlantic World by the time of appointment.

  • tenure-track assistant professor as the Richard W. Bulliet Chair of Islamic History, to begin 1 Jul. 2022
  • We especially seek scholars focusing on the history of western Asia, during the 10th-15th centuries CE, working primarily in Persian and/or Arabic.
  • Teaching: The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduates and graduate students while also contributing to the general curriculum of the department and the Core curriculum of the College

Athabasca University (CAN) - Non-Western]

  • tenure-track position in Modern Non-Western/Global History at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipated November 2021
  • The successful candidate will expand the geographic breadth of our undergraduate modern history courses beyond Europe and North America. Having a research specialty in the modern history of a non-Western area or areas is an asset.
  • Candidates must have a PhD in History. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
  • Teaching: While creating courses in their teaching specialty, the candidate will also coordinate and revise a suite of existing online courses based on the needs of the program. There is the possibility of graduate teaching through the Master of Arts in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program. Evidence of scholarly output and research productivity as well as proof of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level is required. Familiarity with online systems of education is preferred. Experience in graduate teaching will also be considered an asset.
