Full-Time / Tenure-Track Positions

California State University, Fullerton (CA) - TT Asst. Professor - American Studies (incl. Sexuality and Gender)

The Department of American Studies at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with appointment to begin Fall 2019. We seek a specialist in the study of race and/or sexuality and gender within the larger context of American history and culture, with ability to teach American Studies theories and methods at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as courses on topics such as: Civil Rights and Social Movements; Race, Gender and Popular Culture; and Race and Sex in American Culture.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in American Studies or a related field. ABD's may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date. Evidence of effective university-level teaching experience. Potential for successful research and scholarly publication. Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service. Ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally-diverse range of students.

Rank and Salary: The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available. he Department of Women and Gender Studies at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Women and Gender Studies with appointments to begin Fall 2019. The Women and Gender Studies Department at Cal State University, Fullerton is seeking candidates who will teach women and gender studies courses at both the introductory and upper division level. Students take our courses as electives, to fulfill General Education, or to complete a Minor in Women & Gender Studies, Minor in Queer Studies, or B.A. in Women & Gender Studies. We seek interdisciplinary scholars of gender and/or sexuality studies who have a working understanding of Critical Race Theory, Feminist and Queer Theory. In addition, applicants should have research and teaching specialization in some combination of the following fields: race and ethnicity; intersectional and/or Black feminist methods and theories; human rights and transnational feminisms, particularly as these relate to immigration, citizenship and/or refugee status; non-Western and/or indigenous studies and feminisms; cultural and/or social history; queer theory (with an emphasis on queer of color critique) and/or trans* studies; decolonial, postcolonial, and/or anticolonial thought; social media studies, digital humanities, and/or digital activism; history of science, with an emphasis on ecofeminism and transnational geopolitics; social science theories, methods and approaches.

Department faculty members are expected to develop courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on academic committees, and participate in the broader disciplinary community.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Women's Studies, Gender Studies, or a related field. ABD’s that apply must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date. A background and research specialization in Women and Gender Studies. A strong record of scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service. Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues and community. Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population. Ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally-diverse range of students. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
