  • [Oct. 25] Any updates? NWSA is coming up soon.
  • None here x7
  • Dear candidates -- Search chair Kyla Wazana Tompkins here. We received almost 400 applications and have only just narrowed it down to a long short list. We need to pass the list by our Dean and people should hear from us by Wednesday. So sorry this is running so late. The option is for either skype or NWSA interview. More in just a few days. I truly apologize for the wait. Please be assured we took a lot of time to read all of your documents carefully and fully. Warmest wishes to you all, and with much gratitude for the care you took over your applications and your amazing projects, Kyla Wazana Tompkins
  • was this sent to everyone, that "long short list," or people who had inquired? (I didn't get anything)
  • I was under the impression that this was added to this wiki page, not that it was sent to people. Was I wrong? Did anyone receive this by e-mail?
  • Nope, added to the page by a Pomona College IP address, so only posted here, I assume.
  • Thank you for the update! x6
  • 11/03: Did anyone hear back?
  • nothing here... x4
  • I've heard that at least some candidates were contacted for interviews.
  • Well, so much for transparency, Kyla Wazana Tompkins. The rest of us are still waiting. x2
  • I think that's pretty standard - search committees are often reluctant to tell people that they haven't been selected before they have a sense that they'll have some luck with the chosen pool.  I'm disappointed, as I think it would be a wonderful place to be, but I'm not annoyed at all with Kyla - I thought it was really generous of her to post to let us know the status of the search. (x5)
  • Agreed - thank you, Kyla. Does this mean, however, that other applicants will not have to book a flight on short notice to NWSA? Planned to go just for Pomona. :)
  • Contacted for Skype interview (11/3)
  • Were you all contacted by phone or email? I'm curious if my one missed call today was my missed interview opportunity ;)
  • Is there no news on NWSA interviews (only Skype interviews)?
  • Contacted for NWSA interview via email 11/1
  • Dear candidates, I am writing to confirm that we have now contacted everyone on our initial list of interviewees, which is the only information I can share regarding our current process. I apologize for not writing sooner. I wish I had a job for everyone, and time to write everyone back thanking you for all of your hard work. I will try to check back in here and update as the search progresses. Obviously for legal reasons we will need to alert candidates of news before anyone else. Thank you for your understanding and I wish you all the warmest and best of luck in this job season. You all deserve jobs. Best wishes, KWT
  • Thank you, Kyla x 2 (I really appreciate your note).
  • Yes, thank you. It's really wonderful that you put updates for us on here
  • Rejection email (12/20)
  • Was this (or any) rejection e-mail after the interview or the first news of application status? Just wondering if not getting a rejection e-mail OR an interview means I'm on the B- or C-list, or if it means I'll just never hear anything back at all.

Portland State University - TT Asst. Professor - Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Department - CAMPUS INTERVIEW STAGE[]

  • This joint position between the departments of Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies and of University Studies (UNST) is for a 1.0 FTE tenure-track position with WGSS as the tenuring home.
  • Areas of specialization for this position include feminist and LGBTQ activism or social movements; gender and sexuality studies; feminist theory. Secondary areas of specialization include feminist/queer methodologies; community-based learning.
  • The teaching load is six courses over three quarters including a year-longUNST interdisciplinary first-year inquiry course. Other duties include research, teaching, and development of curricula in area of specialization plus institutional and professional service.
  • Applications due 10/3/16.
  • I feel I have read things about this department regarding turnover and hostility toward women of color. Can anyone speak to this or the tenor of the department?
  • Any word on if references have been contacted?
  • nothing here (10/21) x7
  • Still nothing as of 11/1? x 6
  • Still nothing as of 11/13?

  • I haven't heard anything either. (11/17)
  • Rejection e-mail 11/22 x3
  • Phone interview scheduled 11/22
  • Has anyone else recieved neither a phone interview request nor rejection? Me too! x 4--are we sure that this single post is correct?  Has anyone contacted the department to see if they've moved to contact applicants?
  • Same. Guessing it means we're 'back-up' if the first round of interviews don't yield the person they want (?) or possibly rejections were for people who were eliminated by HR for other reasons (incomplete apps, no WST certification, visa limitations, etc.).
  • To answer the question re: hostility, check out Patty Duncan's essay. I interviewed here several years back and the tensions were very intense. That said, these are historic violences endemic to the field, so I really don't read this on an indivual level. The question is how much support there currently is, and at the least, people have come out strong for sanctuary etc on campus.
  • Rejection email 12/20/16
  • Has anyone else still not heard anything at all?
  • Campus visits were scheduled [for end of January 2017].

-- Interfolio says "interviewing semi-finalists" on my dossier overview for this job. Has anyone heard anything?

  • 11/15: nothing here, but that message shows up in my interfolio as well. x1
  • This morning my application said "incomplete" and had space to upload additional documents but I just logged back in and it says "complete" again. Haven't heard anything.
  • When an Interfolio application switches to "incomplete" after the deadline and has space for additional uploads, is that a request for more materials?
  • 11/18: Request for more materials <-- Could you be more specific? Did your receive an Interfolio-generated email asking for more materials? An indivdualized email from the search cahir? See empty spaces on your Interfolio page which are assumably for uploading more docs? Especially sicne there's confusion about Interfolio page status changes, it would help to state more specifics. Thanks!
  • I posted the 11/18 notification - I got an automated email from interfolio asking for more materials signed from the search chair. Sorry for not including this initially!
  • This also happened to me - it switched to "requires 2 new documents" - a syllabus and writing sample - but there was no way to update it. I called the office, and they said that was a mistake. Then two days later it switched to "complete" again. I did not receive an automated email, but it appears others did.
