The School of Cultural and Critical Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Cultural and Critical Studies to begin August 2012. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses on interdisciplinary methods of research and critical analysis used in cultural studies fields and to guide students in the application of critical methodologies in their own research projects. We are seeking candidates with expertise in interdisciplinary research on popular narratives (which may include film, television, literature, visual, interactive, new media, or other formats) as they shape and express intersecting identities of race, gender, sexuality, nationality and/or social class. Earned Ph.D. in a humanities or social science discipline or in an appropriate interdisciplinary field preferred; ABDs will be considered. The position will be a joint appointment between the School of Cultural and Critical Studies and the Department of Popular Culture. Bowling Green State University's new School of Cultural and Critical Studies combines the departments of Popular Culture and Ethnic Studies and the programs of Women's Studies and American Culture Studies. The appointee will have the opportunity to teach and develop courses across all units of the school and to teach at the undergraduate, Masters, and doctoral level.

BGSU offers supporting research facilities such as the Browne Popular Culture Library, one of the largest collections of popular print media in the US, and the Sound Recordings Archives which provide unique resources for teaching and research. • Has anyone heard anything on this one? I know that their email servers crashed on the deadline because of the amount of applicants, but I haven't heard a single thing from them since.
  • Does that mean they didn't get some emails? :( (x2--on both the concern and the frowny face)
  • I don't know... I sent my app to the email address they provided on the call, but it kept returning to me. So I called the number listed, and the search committee chair said (in a recorded message) to send it to his email instead because the server for the other email address had crashed. So, you're probably safe if you a) sent it before the day of the deadline or b) sent it to his email address on the deadline.
  • Wow. How many e-mails would it take to "crash" an e-mail address?
• Any updates here? The original acknowledgement said they would be scheduling interviews in early January.
  • They sent me a letter acknowledging their receipt of my application today, and requested me to fill out an EEO survey to send back. They said in the letter that they would begin scheduling on campus visits "not too long" after "the end of December."
• Found out that they have a "Visiting Assistant Professor" in the department looking to become TT who is recently married to a tenured faculty member also in the department... who curiously happens to be on the search committee for this job. Isn't this an ethics violation? Bad form? Clear conflict of interest? I'm upset that I wasted my time on applying, and I imagine the other hundreds (who crashed the email server when applying) would also be upset to learn they have unwillingly partaken in an institutional dog and pony show.

Brown University invites applications for a joint position in the Department of Modern Culture and Media and the Department of Comparative Literature, in postcolonial theory at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. We seek a scholar of nonwestern media, literature, and culture as well as postcolonial theory. Research interests should be transnational and comparative (in at least two languages). Established research program and ability to conduct University-level undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Responsibilities & Requirements: The Assistant Professor will teach three undergraduate courses and one graduate seminar per academic year. He/she will establish and maintain a vigorous research and publication program and participate fully in the life of the department, the College, and the University.

Special Notes: This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2012.
