Brown University invites applications for a joint position in the Department of Modern Culture and Media and the Department of Comparative Literature, in postcolonial theory at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. We seek a scholar of nonwestern media, literature, and culture as well as postcolonial theory. Research interests should be transnational and comparative (in at least two languages). Applicants should be conversant with both media and literary theory, and have teaching interests in both literature and media. Media research and teaching can include digital media, cinema, and/or television. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Applications must be postmarked by November 1.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Literature and Theory of Technology/Media/Information We seek candidates who specialize in literature and technology, media history and theory, and/or information (including information society and culture) and whose work suits the particular research and teaching environment of an English department. Possible areas of study include historical and contemporary media systems in relation to cultural or symbolic expression; the social, political, or economic aspects of information technology in relation to the same; or the Digital Humanities.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach a range of courses (from the introductory level to the graduate level) in literature and technology/media/information, as well as a literary historical field; contribute to the department's digital humanities and undergraduate specialization in Literature and Culture of Information; and intersect with the department's collaborative research and teaching initiatives (including the Transcriptions Center). The Department of Religion and Culture and the interdisciplinary doctoral program ASPECT (Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought) at Virginia Tech invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Cultural Theory to begin August 10, 2012. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in cultural studies or a closely related humanities or social sciences discipline, have a strong theoretical and interdisciplinary background, and show a commitment to the missions of both the Department of Religion and Culture (http://www.rc.vt.edu/) and ASPECT (http://www.aspect.vt.edu/). Preference will be given to applicants whose main body of research is in one of the following fields: media studies, visual studies, or popular culture.
