Thanks new admin for doing a great job. I'm on fieldwork with very bad internet, so glad you're doing this. I will set up the RSS feed though and link it to the Twitter and Facebook accounts once I'm in the big city with better-than-3G internet! Funny - I tried to post this before and it didn't. Now in city and it posted. Set up RSS -> Twitter and RSS -> Facebook.

Thanks!

  • Are there links to the Twitter Facebook feeds available? Might be a good idea to post them on the main page? Una74 (talk) 16:01, August 22, 2013 (UTC)
  • I added a link to the Twitter feed, but the FB page - https://www.facebook.com/CommJobsWiki - does not seem to be updating for the new year correctly. Feather99 (talk) 19:33, August 24, 2013 (UTC)
  • The RSS feed seems to have stopped working. If any of the other mods could fix this - or point me toward instructions for doing so - I'd be grateful! Feather99 (talk) 23:46, September 19, 2013 (UTC)
  • This is an issue that has occured on several other pages. Usually, it clears up on it's own after a short while. I'd recommend patience and checking it again tomorrow. If, however, the problem lingers longer, I would recommend reporting it to Wikia as a bug: http://academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contact/bug. For what it's worth, the Twitter feed seems to be working normally, which suggests there is not a deeper underlying problem with the RSS. Una74 (talk) 00:21, September 20, 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you for explaining, much appreciated. Feather99 (talk) 03:18, September 20, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for doing that feed setup for social media. I can definitely keep the wiki updated, but I didn't know how to manage that part!

For postings without due dates, try to post the date it was posted, so that people can get an idea of roughly when they should apply. Some of those will sit for months and people get confused. :) Commie4life (talk) 05:16, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

Two other formatting things -- try to use the * then a space so that lines don't run together. It isn't a big deal now, but as the wiki grows, it'll make things easier.

Also, even if a job was listed once, if there is another posting (HigherEd jobs and NCA, for example), post both because one will inevitably be pulled.

Thanks! Commie4life (talk) 05:22, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

"try to use the * then a space so that lines don't run together"

Could you clarify this for me? I'm sorry, but I don't know what that means or where I'm meant to do it when updating.

So when you're editing, hopefully you're doing it in source mode - MUCH easier. But when you put in a new entry, leave a space between the * (bullet point) and the words (I went through and fixed existing ones), as it keeps the spacing of all entries very tidy!

Ahh, got it. Will do going forward.

A note from a moderator: If you find a broken link, it's certainly worthwhile to make a note of it, but remember that this is a community effort. If this wiki is going to be useful, in a field as large and varied as ours, users also need to participate and seek out links to replace broken ones rather than just waiting around for a mod to dig up a newer link. Get in there and edit a listing or two yourself! The more active users we have, the better informed we all will be. Thanks!

Thank you to the editors and users for doing a fantastic job, but I wonder if there is a more efficient and streamlined format that could be used, such as what is done by a Political Science Job Wiki here: http://www.poliscirumors.com/wiki.php.

It's sortable and much easier to follow, especially if users don't follow the Wiki every day.

  • A: I'm sorry, but I don't know Javascript, which is what that PoliSciRumors system uses. I'm not even sure wikia.com allows Javascript coding. If someone wants to volunteer to do the work to code such a thing and finance the hosting of it on a paid hosting service, be my guest. If you want to see what updates are made over time, I can suggest scanning the RSS feed to see what's been updated each day. Feather99 (talk) 20:23, November 9, 2013 (UTC)

How do you add a new job posting to the list?68.15.175.22 21:23, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

  • A: If you post the link on this page, admin will add it to the front. Una74 (talk) 21:48, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

here is a link for a job that is not included in the list:

As of today (5/13/14) I resign as a moderator and will no longer update or edit this page. Feather99 (talk) 20:19, May 13, 2014 (UTC)
