There is a 3/2 teaching load, and members of the department teach introductory as well as advanced-level courses. We seek an outstanding faculty member with a demonstrable commitment to undergraduate research, student learning, diversity, and inclusive pedagogy. The successful candidate will contribute to Bucknell’s commitment to the liberal arts through teaching courses that emphasize critical writing and are part of the college’s core curriculum.

Application materials include a cover letter, CV, a statement addressing your experience and potential as a teacher, a statement addressing your scholarly interests, and three letters of recommendation. Applications will only be accepted through Bucknell's online career center (http://careers.bucknell.edu). Review of applications will begin on November 5th and continue until the position is filled.

About Bucknell: Founded in 1846 and located along the banks of the Susquehanna River in historic Lewisburg, Pa., Bucknell University is an undergraduate-focused institution that stands uniquely at the intersection of top-ranked liberal arts, engineering and management programs. Our students choose from more than 50 majors and 60 minors in the arts, engineering, humanities, management, and natural and social sciences, as well as extensive global study, service-learning and research opportunities. Bucknell’s beautiful 450-acre campus includes first-rate facilities and is home to more than 90 percent of its students. Residential life is vibrant with about 150 student-run organizations, 27 NCAA Division I athletic teams, a robust arts culture, and a strong student commitment to community and global service work.

The English Department at Widener University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in British literature of the long 18th century (1688-1830), particularly Romanticism. Research fields are open and should complement existing faculty expertise. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, be expected to pursue an active research agenda, and contribute to campus and professional service.

Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching and advising, to working collaboratively, and to participating in a department and college that values diversity.

Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities in a given semester will include two first-year writing courses, one introductory-level survey in literary history or course in literature and writing, and one upper-division seminar in the candidate's areas of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to periodically teach the department's senior-level research seminar. Teaching load is 4/3 (12 semester hours/9 semester hours).

Job Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a commitment to undergraduate education and clear evidence of scholarly potential. Ph.D. in English is required. ABD candidates may be considered if the Ph.D. will be completed by May 2019.

To apply: Applicants must complete the online application at https://widener.igreentree.com/CSS_External/CSSPage_Welcome.asp. Applicants should submit a letter of application, CV, transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, one copy of a syllabus for an introductory-level literary history survey course, one copy of a syllabus for a potential upper-division course (both should include assignments), and 20-page writing sample. In addition, three confidential letters of reference should be sent to Arts_and_Sciences@widener.edu. Please ensure that all documents are submitted as either .docx or .pdf.
