The English & Foreign Languages Department in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2018.

The Position: We seek to hire a faculty member working on transnational, Anglophone literature of the long eighteenth century (1660-1800). The successful candidate will teach courses in the English B.A. and M.A. programs, and contribute to the educational mission of the CSU system.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in English (or a closely related field such as Comparative Literature) from an accredited university by no later than August 1, 2018.
Ability to teach Anglophone literature—including surveys of British literature.
Ability to teach courses in literary theory, in particular gender studies.
Evidence of effective college or university teaching experience to a diverse population
Evidence of current and potential ability to build a strong record of scholarly publication.
Demonstrated ability to contribute excellence of a diverse academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and of commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications:

Evidence of one or two subspecialties in any of the following areas such as: 1) transnational or transatlantic studies, 2) Milton and his contemporaries, or 3) the rise of the novel.
Evidence of any additional experience with internship programs, English Education at the secondary level, or comparative literature is desirable.

Whittier College is offering a two-year, sabbatical-replacement position for the 2018-2020 school years to teach courses in Eighteenth and Nineteenth-Century British literature, and sections of Introduction to Literature. The load is 24 credits (8 courses over the year). Applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand by Fall 2018.
