The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Early Modern studies, specializing in early British non-dramatic literatures, cultures, and technologies, to begin Fall 2019. The teaching load for research faculty is normally 2-2, with balanced assignments in upper-division and graduate courses as well as Auburn’s core curriculum.

The Department of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College invites applications for a tenure track position in early modern literature and culture, at either the assistant or the beginning associate professor level. Core teaching responsibilities will involve courses in early modern literature ranging from the late-fifteenth to the mid-seventeenth century. While we are interested in all subfields related to early modern literary studies, we especially encourage applicants whose research engages with contemporary critical/theoretical models, including critical race studies, postcolonial approaches, queer theory and gender studies, ecocriticism, and digital humanities.

The Dartmouth Department of English and Creative Writing ranges across all periods of literary history and has a strong creative writing program. We are committed to developing new fields and to rethinking the relationship between critical and creative practices. Our faculty members participate in research initiatives across campus, and are involved in initiatives in the digital humanities and experiential learning. We seek candidates in pre-1800 English literature, especially those who demonstrate additional expertise in Transnational Studies, Mediterranean studies, or Creative Writing. The teaching responsibility is 6 courses (18 credits) per year and includes all levels of literature and first-year writing. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, a productive research agenda, and willingness to engage in advising and service to develop our small, dynamic Department and Campus programs, including the B.A. in English.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in pre-1800 English literature by August 15, 2019, have published in the field of the position, and demonstrate teaching and research excellence. Teaching experience in both literature and first-year writing, experience with diverse student populations, and knowledge of Spanish are helpful.

The WSB also has strong ties with A&M's Center of Digital Humanities Research. The Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago invites junior specialists in English Renaissance Literature and Race to apply for a tenure track position via the Provost's Postdoctoral Fellows Program. We are looking for a scholar working at the intersection of race and British literature during the period 1500-1700. We welcome scholars interested in such fields as race, drama, and performance; race and British literature within a comparative perspective; race and British literature in the context of global contact.

The Faculty of Languages and Cultures at the University of Iceland invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor/Lecturer in in British Medieval and Renaissance Literature.

The successful applicant will contribute to historical and theoretical first, second and third year BA courses and MA seminars on Shakespeare, British Medieval and Renaissance Literature, and academic writing about literature. The applicant will also supervise B.A. essays and M.A. and Ph.D. theses in English Literature. Teaching is in English and therefore near-native proficiency in English is required. Most compulsory courses are taught by distance as well as on-site, so the successful applicant must be willing and able to participate in distance teaching; interest in digital humanities is an advantage.

Goshen College invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of English to teach literature and writing courses beginning in August 2019. Candidates with one or more of the following specialties preferred: Global Anglophone, World Literature, Multi-Ethnic literatures, British literature, American Literature before 1900, or Shakespeare. Experience teaching Creative Writing, especially fiction, is also desirable.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of literature and survey level courses for the CORE (general education) program, including the possibility of a writing and/or research class, as well as upper-level English and interdisciplinary courses. The teaching assignment includes first-year writing and research, interdisciplinary, and study abroad courses. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strengths in thematic areas for comparative courses that resonate with other academic programs at Goshen College – e.g., Sustainability, Women’s and Gender Studies, International Education, Peace and Conflict Studies, and the willingness to lead off-campus experiential Domestic and International courses. In addition to teaching, the position includes advising and mentoring an increasingly diverse student body (41%) and supporting departmental co-curriculars, such as publishing and storytelling initiatives.

The department offers three majors: English, Writing, and TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language), with a curriculum that focuses on English literature and language in a global context, and issues of social justice such as race, gender, and class in diverse contexts.  All members of the department have opportunities to develop courses within their expertise.

Goshen College is a teaching college with a 4-3-1 load, and all teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees and assist with advising, as well as recruiting prospective students.  The successful candidate must be ready to contribute to our strong tradition of excellence in research and publication as well as teaching. The Faculty of English wishes to appoint an Associate Professor (or Professor) in English Literature, in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Exeter College. The successful candidate will have research expertise in literature in English in the period 1550-1700. Queen Mary University of London (UK) - Postdoc in Early Modern Cultural Studies & Digital Humanities: "Networking Archives" (2.5 years)[]

The School of English and Drama at Queen Mary University of London wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on an AHRC-funded research project, ‘Networking Archives: Assembling and analysing a meta-archive of correspondence, 1509-1714’, led by Professor Howard Hotson (PI, University of Oxford), Dr Ruth Ahnert (Co-I, Queen Mary University of London), and Dr Sebastian Ahnert (Co-I, University of Cambridge). The Postdoctoral Research Assistant will work under the guidance of Dr Ruth Ahnert.

This project, which was launched in October 2018, will bring together early modern correspondence data collected in 'Early Modern Letters Online' (EMLO), and merge this with metadata from the Tudor and Stuart 'State Papers Online' (Gale) to create the UK's largest meta-archive of curated early modern correspondence of c.430,000 letters. Following the process of data gathering and cleaning, we will combine quantitative network analysis with traditional research approaches to discover what the meta-archive reveals about the ways in which 'intelligence' was gathered and transmitted in the early modern period, both in terms of political missives communicated for the consolidation of state authority and as learned exchanges within the international 'republic of letters'. In addition, the project team will develop a curriculum to support the teaching of network analysis methods to early career researchers, which will be trialled first through a set of training schools and a colloquium in Oxford and Cambridge. The Postdoctoral Research Assistant will be actively involved in all facets of the project, and will be provided with the necessary training to contribute towards these tasks. They will be co-editor of the volume of essays arising from the colloquium, and, in discussion with the PI and Co-Is, develop their own research agenda and publications.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant area which will have been awarded before the start of the role. The post is full time (35 hours per week) with a starting salary in the range of £33,615 to £35,459 per annum, depending on experience.
