University of California, Merced (USA:Ca) - Assistant Professor of 19th-Century American Poetry

The Department of Literatures and Languages at UC Merced is seeking to hire a faculty member at the Assistant (tenure-track) level in 19th-Century American Poetry. Candidates in all areas of 19th-Century American Poetry are encouraged to apply, but we are particularly interested in applicants who research and teach environmental literature and eco-criticism; critical race studies; indigenous studies; feminist theory; and/or engage with writers or areas traditionally marginalized in the academy.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual to join the faculty at the newest University of California campus and to engage in long-term program building. We seek outstanding scholars who will establish and maintain creative research programs; participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research; and teach effectively in the undergraduate English Program and Interdisciplinary Humanities graduate program. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD in literature, English, or a closely related field by the position start date and a strong record of publication.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2020.

Wake Forest University (USA:NC) - Assistant Professor, 20th and 21st century American Literature, tenure-track (2 positions)

The Department of English at Wake Forest University invites applications for two tenure-track positions in 20th-21st century American Literature. One position will emphasize modern and contemporary American poetry and poetics, and the other position will emphasize modern and contemporary American prose fiction. Secondary interests could include: cultural studies, critical theory, performance studies, race and gender theory, and electronic literatures.  We seek teacher-scholars whose research engages with diverse perspectives, topics, and/or populations and whose teaching will contribute to and enhance our vibrant curriculum in literature, culture, and language. The Department of English Studies at Durham University seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in English Literature 1660-1832 (Grade 7 or 8). The successful candidate will have research and teaching interests in any area of literature of the period, including the Restoration, the Eighteenth Century, and the Romantic period. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with interests in poetry and poetics, fictional and non-fictional prose, and women authors; specialists in any other aspect of the literature of the period are also encouraged to apply. Visiting Positions / Limited Term Positions - 2019-2020 Deadlines

King's College London (UK:Eng) - Lecturer, Academic Education Pathway (1 Year Visiting Asst. Prof. Equivalent) - Early Modern English Literature

The Department of English wishes to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Early Modern English Literature (Academic Education Pathway) for a period of 10 months from September 1 2019. This is a temporary post to cover maternity leave in the department. A UK Lecturer position is approximately equivalent to an Assistant Professor in the US system.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach on a range of undergraduate modules. These are likely to include the first-year compulsory modules Reading Poetry and Early Modern Literary Cultures and second-year options including Comedy and Identity, Life of the Sonnet and Poetry of Revolution. The post-holder will be involved in personal tutoring and some academic administration and will also be expected to supervise undergraduate dissertations.  Depending on experience, the post-holder may also be involved in informal advising of research students. They will play a full part in the intellectual life of the Department, including departmental sessions on research, professional development and pastoral care.

This post will be offered on a 10 month fixed term contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent. The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £37,412 to £44,015 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.
