Assistant Professor of English: The Department of English seeks a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with an emphasis in multiethnic American Literature or Literature of the Americas. The department seeks an individual with strengths and commitments in global and postcolonial approaches to English-language literature and its relationships to the many literary traditions in the Americas. The person appointed to this position will join a lively and varied group of scholar-teachers engaged with literary and cultural production and teaching literature and humanities courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Other responsibilities include academic advising of English majors and certificate students. Additional opportunities include developing outreach and coordination strategies for advising and support for student success and complementing a reinvigorated Ethnic Studies program within the College of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. This is essentially hearsay, but I know someone on the search committee, they reported to me that the department couldn't agree on what they wanted, as may be evident from the job ad, and hence couldn't make up their minds once they moved into other stages of the process.

Colorado College invites applications for a tenure-track position in our interdisciplinary Southwest Studies Program, to begin in fall 2016. We seek a broadly-trained humanist with expertise in the Greater Southwest (American Southwest and/or Northern Mexico), who is enthusiastic about working in a liberal arts college setting and taking advantage of the experiential learning opportunities offered by Colorado College’s Block Plan.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a commitment to and potential for excellence in innovative undergraduate teaching and scholarly research. The Colorado College Block Plan is an intensive academic schedule in which professors teach and students take only one course at a time for 3.5 weeks. The Block Plan lends itself to field and project-based teaching, and support for field trips and community-based learning projects is available. Normal teaching load is six blocks a year, including a block for senior capstone project supervision. The ideal candidate will teach a variety of courses for the program, including a first-year experience course in Southwest Studies, participating in junior research seminar, offering courses in their areas of specialization, and advising senior capstone projects for Southwest Studies majors. Southwest Studies Program faculty are affiliated with the Hulbert Center for Southwest Studies, which supports academic and outreach programs, as well as faculty scholarship, concerning the Southwest.

Good to know. After glancing through their Statement of Faith and Community Life Statement, I realized that they need to clarify that Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and gays need not apply to this evangelical Protestant institution.
2. I found this to be scary (found in the "faculty application" everyone must sign). It gives approval to an agency called HireRight to do a background check. I wonder what they're trying to find... "The background report may contain information concerning your character, general reputation, personal characteristics, mode of living and (in limited circumstances), credit standing. The Department of English and the Latin American Studies Program at Lehigh University welcome applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of U.S. Latino/a Literature, with particular emphasis on mainland Puerto Rican and/or Dominican-American letters. The faculty recruited in Indigenous Studies will join an active and vibrant community of scholars whose work is focused on North America, but is also hemispheric and global in both the sense of its international reach and its cross-disciplinary scope. The Department of English at Beloit College invites applications for a one- year sabbatical replacement in multi-ethnic American Literature with the possibility of a renewed second year contract. The successful candidate will teach a total of five (5) courses, including introductory and survey courses in American Literature and courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Candidates with secondary interests in Anglophone trans-national literatures and digital humanities/media studies/film are especially encouraged to apply, as are those whose scholarship and teaching is informed by critical studies of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Earlham College will be hiring a one-year visiting assistant professor for the 2016-17 academic year with the ability to teach courses in American, African American and/or U.S. Ethnic Literatures. A candidate who also has an academic background in any of the interdisciplinary programs taught at Earlham is encouraged to apply. Interdisciplinary programs at Earlham include, among others: African and African-American Studies, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Peace and Global Studies, Jewish Studies, Latin American Studies, Environmental Studies and International Studies. The University of Oregons English Department, in collaboration with the Ethnic Studies Department, invites applications for a 2016-18 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Ethnic American Literatures and Cultural Productions.

Applicants should have a demonstrated pedagogical and scholarly investment in the study of race and ethnicity and should hold a PhD in English, Folklore, Media Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field by June 1, 2016. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations and/or work in fields of study historically under-represented in the academy and who will enhance the English Department's existing strengths in the study of African American, Native American/Alaskan/Hawai'ian and First Nations, Latino/a, and Asian American Literatures and Cultural Productions. We welcome comparative, interdisciplinary, queer, and intersectional research.

The fellow will be in residence at the University of Oregons English Department during academic years 2016-18. Fellows will teach 3 courses during that 2-year period. These courses will be developed and scheduled in consultation with the associate head of the English Department and cross-listed in Ethnic Studies. The fellow will make a research presentation to the English Department, Ethnic Studies Department, and other interested scholars. Further contributions may include offering a workshop for graduate students in the fellow's field of specialization or participation in student/faculty reading groups during their appointment. The fellow will offer mentorship to graduate students in English and, as a graduate program develops, Ethnic Studies. The fellow will work closely with a designated mentor or mentors who will be a senior faculty in English or Ethnic Studies. The fellows will earn a salary of $45,000 a year plus benefits, $1,000 a year in research funds, $750 a year for conference travel, a campus office, and up to $2,500 for a computer for use during the fellowship period. A budget for moving expenses may also be included in the fellowship package.
