The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position in American literature (any period) and Ethnic American literatures (with emphasis on African-American literature, Asian American literature, Latino/a American literature and/or Native American literature), beginning August 2013. Columbus State University offers a student-centered environment in the thriving arts community of Columbus, Georgia, about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta. CSU has enjoyed steady growth in recent years, enrolling more than 8,400 undergraduate and graduate students. The university offers 46 undergraduate and graduate degrees. Featuring small class sizes, CSU offers nationally-accredited programs in art, nursing, music, theatre and teacher education. The university also offers a variety of online courses and extensive continuing education program. The successful candidate will offer introductory surveys and upper-division courses in these subject areas, as well as world literature and composition. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester. The position requires a PhD in American literature (any period) with secondary emphasis in Ethnic American literatures.

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2013 and continue until the position has been filled. Applications for part-time and full-time faculty positions must include transcripts of all academic work, and official transcripts must be presented prior to campus visit if selected for interview. Primary Purpose: This is a tenure track position to provide courses in American Ethnic and Minority Literature at undergraduate and graduate levels and offer our M.A. and Ph.D. students appropriate advising to theses and dissertations in these important specializations within English studies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Nine workload units teaching per semester, undergraduate and graduate level, including general education courses, undergraduate majors courses, graduate courses, and direction of graduate-level mentorships, internships, theses, and dissertations

2. Three to four workload units research per semester in the area of specialization

3. Two to three workload units service per semester using the faculty member's professional expertise in service to the department, college, university, and entities outside the university

The English Department at Utica College seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor with particular expertise in contemporary American multicultural prose. How was the request made, and was it for letters and transcript in the same message? Yes, in the same email. (12/7) A: email.

Was the e-mail from a search committee member or human resources? I am only asking because on the same day they asked for my rec. letters via interfolio, but I never actually got contacted directly by anybody asking for a transcript, so I am not sure what to make of this. Did this happen to anybody else?

I also received an Interfolio rec request, but not a request for transcript.  Those who received an email request for both, can you provide more information?

I received an automated email signed by the search chair but from jobs@westfield.ma.edu It said that my letters had been requested and that I needed to upload my transcripts. The request from interfolio came a couple of hours later.  Check your spam box? And maybe upload your transcripts if you got the interfolio letters request but not the email just to be safe? A:  I would also contact the department.

The Department of Foreign Languages, in conjunction with the Department of English, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature for Fall 2013. The ideal candidate for this joint appointment would have a PhD in Comparative Literature, or closely related area, focusing on Latin American Literature as well as Transnational Literature of the Americas. The candidate would be able to connect Latin American, Caribbean, U.S. Latino/a, as well as other literatures of the Americas.

The successful candidate would teach Spanish majors, who are required to take Latin American literature and culture courses in Spanish. In addition, the faculty member would also teach literature of the Americas (in translation) to English majors. Lastly, the new faculty member would have the opportunity to create seminars in either/both departments that would focus on underrepresented literatures.

Required Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Comparative Literature or related field, specializing in Latin American Literature as well as Transnational Literature of the Americas, by August 2013. Candidates should have native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English, and experience in teaching Spanish at the college level. St. Lawrence University invites applications for a visiting appointment (potentially renewable for up to three years) in early American literature (from its beginning through the end of the nineteenth century) and ethnic American literatures (with emphasis on African-American literature, Asian-American literature, Latin-American literature, and/or Native American literature). The successful candidate will offer introductory surveys and upper division courses in these subject areas, as well as the department’s research methods/theory course. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester. Ph.D. preferred. The successful candidate will join a department founded upon the essential relationship between creative expression and the study of literature, a department with a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as scholarship. We welcome applications from candidates who bring diverse cultural, ethnic, theoretical, and national perspectives to bear on their writing and teaching. Position begins August 2013.

Visiting position in American Literature with expertise in American Literature 1920-present and Multi-Ethnic American Literatures at the rank of assistant professor. Effective August 2013. Ph.D. required.

The successful candidate will offer introductory courses in English, including Introduction to Fiction and an Introductory Composition course. The candidate should also be able to offer a first-year literature course that will be cross-listed with our Race and Ethnic Studies Program. At a third-year level, the candidate will teach a course in American Literature 1920-the present and a literary theme course focused either on Multi-Ethnic Literatures or on a Contemporary American Literature genre or theme. The standard annual teaching load is five courses.
