We seek a specialist to consolidate our research and teaching strengths in the field of Modern History and Distance Learning, with expertise in any field or region relevant to the Department’s core strengths.
The appointee will be expected to consolidate and expand our teaching provision, by delivering core undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Modern History field. In particular, they will be expected to contribute to the delivery, administration, and development of the Department’s MA Distance Learning Programmes in either History and / or Military History. At undergraduate level the appointee will be expected to contribute teaching to second and third year undergraduate modules in modern history relevant to their area of expertise. These modules could include Global Cold War, Global History of Gender and Sexuality, Pandora’s Box: Europe and the First World War, 1900-30, and In the Eye of the Storm: Europe and the Second World War, 1930-1960. The Chair Group Contemporary History is a unique feature within Dutch academia. It analyzes our contemporary world in the light of world history since 1945 through multi-disciplinary approaches and methods. To expand its cooperation within History and across the faculties, the Chair group is looking for a colleague with a PhD from the humanities and social sciences and an excellent track record on the history of one or more (Western) European societies or regions in the light of intensifying contacts within and across national and continental borders. As Lecturer, you will carry out research, teaching, and management within the School, Faculty and University, in an area of history from c. 1945 to the present day which speaks directly to the global challenges of the contemporary world.
We welcome applications from candidates working in one of the following thematic areas – the history of human rights and humanitarianism; race and indigeneity; global health challenges; social justice movements (including, but not limited to, disability rights, gender equality, LGBTQ+ activism); climate change and environmentalism – for the period after 1945 and in international/transnational perspective.
