  • We are seeking candidates from wide-ranging disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to history. We recognize the varied disciplinary trajectories and methodologies of Inuit, First Nations, Métis and other Indigenous researchers in the academy and acknowledge the history of epistemological violence and the university sector’s implication in settler-colonialism. For centuries, Indigenous peoples have been the object of outside ethnographic, archaeological, historical, and linguistic study; their material and intangible cultural heritage mined by national (white) institutions and scholars. There is therefore an urgent need to re-think longstanding knowledge frameworks as part of the decolonizing process. Applicants should have a terminal degree in their field of expertise or equivalent professional experience in their chosen field. Individuals who have taken non-traditional pathways into academia are invited to apply. Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals, such as the decision to have a family, eldercare, illness, and so forth, in their letter of application.
  • The ideal candidate will be a scholar, or a scholar-creator, with outstanding promise to be a leading voice in Indigenous Oral Tradition and/or Oral History, as these forms of knowledge and practice pertain to their own particular research focus. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake their chairship in such a way that maintains a living connection to an Indigenous community. The successful candidate will have a track record of Indigenous mentorship and community research partnerships, or can demonstrate the potential to develop such mentoring and partnerships. The successful candidate is expected to lead a CFI funding application that could result, for example, in a mobile story-sharing lab, further facilitating collaborative research with Indigenous communities.

  • Review begins: 1 Oct. 2019
    • [Oct. 20] Any word on this? [Not yet, though I imagine they were bombarded with applications -- Oct. 22]
    • [Oct 22] Recieved email on October 10 stating they would be looking at them over the next two weeks. So maybe we will hear something later this week?
      • [Oct 22] Was that an automated email or one sent in response to a query?
      • [Oct 22] Automated
      • [Oct 22] Interesting, I only received the automated response from Interfolio upon submission of the application, nothing since. x6
    • [Nov 5] Just noticed that interfolio notes that materials are due October 29. I don't recall that being there previously. Maybe deadline was extended?
      • I noticed the same thing when I submitted on September 30. My thought at the time was that the different deadlines were a way to work around the quirks of deadlines in interfolio. Basically, the ad said that review begins on Oct. 1, but, if they wanted to keep the Interfolio platform open for submissions past Oct. 1, they would have had to assign an arbitrary, later date such as Oct 29. Anyway, it's not new and this is just my guess.
    • [Nov 11] Has anyone heard anything?
      • [Nov 15] Nothing here. [x3]
    • [Nov 19] They've updated their Interfolio to ask for two syllabi and an article-length writing sample.
  • Are people able to upload anything for those new asks? [I cannot - just assuming I didn't make the shortlist.]
  • [Nov 19] Received an email to upload additional materials to Interfolio for first round of interviews. If you didn't get an email, you probably won't be able to upload.
  • [Nov 20] Strange: I now have the spot to upload the additional materials. But I never got an email asking me to do so? Hmm. [NM. Looked more closely; I'm out.]
    • [Nov 20] That is interesting! Since this is a bit unclear, you may want to check your spam folder (it came from the administrative assistant, but via Interfolio) or even email the search chair to follow up.
  • [Dec 16] Rejection e-mail
