The English Department at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English beginning July 2016.
The ideal candidate will be a generalist with strength in British literature before 1800. Applicants are sought who have the ability to teach speculative fiction, Medieval literature, and/or 17th and 18th century British literature. The successful candidate will be a strong teacher and scholar who can offer courses at all levels, including writing-intensive courses, in a variety of literary periods. Candidates should include other areas of interest in their applications. Teaching load is six courses per year. Other duties include advising students, conducting independent studies, supervising students doing honors thesis work, participating in department and university service, and ongoing scholarly activity in the form of publications and presentations.
Ph.D. required at time of employment. The English Department at Linfield College invites applications for an approved tenure-track position in British literature at the rank of assistant professor, beginning Fall 2016. Expertise in the medieval or long eighteenth-century (1660-1830) periods is preferred. Expertise in gender and sexuality, race, class, ecocriticism, transnationalism, cultural studies, digital humanities, or other critical/theoretical approaches is welcome. A yearly five-course teaching load includes alternating semesters of an introductory British literature survey, a first year Inquiry Seminar, and an upper-division course in one's specialty. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teaching and the ability to integrate an active scholarly program with their classroom practice. A Ph.D. in English or a related field is required by July 1, 2016.

Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Department of English invites applications for a full-time position (with expedited tenure review) at the rank of Associate Professor of English, Medieval Literature and Culture. The Surtz Professorship is a five-year appointment. When the term ends, the faculty member will hold a regular tenured appointment in the department. The Surtz Professor will assume the teaching load of a research-intensive faculty member and receive a generous research stipend. - What makes you say that, Allen Frantzen's presence in the department? If they had wanted an OE person only, presumably they would have advertised for such. I mention this just in case someone would read the previous comment and not apply. Not to rain on the OE parade (I do OE myself), but many departments are choosing not to constrain searches to OE even when replacing Anglo-Saxonists.

- I'm trying to be both politic and anonymous. I know for a fact that last year they ran the same ad, and obviously did not close the search. I know for a fact that they very much wanted OE last year. It's not impossible that they have changed their minds about that, but based on last year I continue to strongly urge OE candidates to apply. I'm sorry if I've annoyed people, I just thought I could help candidates apply more successfully by sharing what I know. I'm happy for my comments to be deleted if they are inappropriate.

The School of Writing, Literature and Film invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in medieval literature and culture.
The successful candidate will be a researcher with potential for distinction and a teacher of demonstrated excellence.
The successful candidate will join the literary studies faculty in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film, which also houses creative writing, rhetoric and composition, and film studies. Our new colleauge will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including the early British literature survey and introductory Shakespeare courses as well as topics in medieval literature and culture, and will also advise MA theses. Our surveys integrate collaborative and transatlantic elements as well as a wide range of texts (digital, material, archival, etc.). Innovative and interdisciplinary approaches are also encouraged at the upper-division and graduate levels. A typical load is two courses for two terms and one course for one term on a trimester system during the academic year.
The primary mission of the School of Writing, Literature, and Film is research/creative activity and undergraduate and graduate education. The School offers the BA and MA in English, a minor in writing with courses in creative writing and professional writing, a film minor, and the MFA in Creative Writing.

PhD in literature with specialization in medieval literature and culture by August 2016.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: The department invites applications for a tenure-track position in British medieval literature. The successful candidate must have a proven ability to teach Chaucer, late Middle English literature, and History of the English Language. Teaching assignments will also include first-year composition, general education literature, and introductions to the major, as well as graduate courses in medieval literature for our MA, MS, and MFA students.
