A campus interview, really? I literally just had a telephone interview and was told they are still at the stage. Super weird.

That is odd. Given that they only gave everyone a week to get all of those materials to them, I suspected from the beginning that there was an internal candidate that they had already planned on hiring.

I'm not an internal candidate, but I am from the state. I don't know if that had something to do with the early campus interview or not. The search chair said they were pressed for time.

The Department of Literatures in English at Connecticut College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in medieval literature, beginning July 1, 2012. Yes. And I think you will find that that isn't the only error they will make. Should you get an interview, ask them what their retention rate is for junior faculty (it isn't good), and then ask about the leadership style of the department chair.

A: It looks like last year's position was filled. So this is a new or extra line? This ad is very specific about desire for fourteenth century expertise (as opposed to last year's more open-ended ad). Also, this position seems to be for a different campus.

A: This is indeed a new and different position. Fordham has (for the purposes of this position) two campuses: The historical one in Rose Hill (the Bronx), where the Center for Medieval Studies is located, and the Lincoln Center campus, which will be the home base for the position which is advertised. But these campuses both belong to the same administrative unit (ONE English department, two locations, with a shuttle service between the two) and are closely interconnected.

Expertise in Old English and/or Middle English literature is required; interdisciplinary expertise is also desirable (e.g., the medieval bases of Western thought, gender studies, medieval art and architecture, or Biblical studies).
