Position: The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor of Italian position in the Department of Foreign Languages beginning August 2020. 

Qualifications: PhD in Italian at time of appointment and native or near-native fluency in Italian is required.

Responsibilities: Ability to teach a second language is a plus, preferably one currently taught in the department. Teaching experience at the various levels of undergraduate instruction in Italian is expected, as is a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Research specialty is open, with demonstrated ability to teach Italian language, literature, and culture, as needed for the Italian Minor program.

Applications are invited for a Permanent post of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Italian Studies within UCD School of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics.

Candidates must have a PhD in Italian Studies and a specialization in the area of the Renaissance or the early modern period. They must have an excellent track record in research commensurate with their career stage. They will have native or near-native competence in Italian and proven experience in and commitment to the teaching of the Italian language in a university setting. As the post is within the multi-lingual, interdisciplinary School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics and the candidate will be involved in cross-School teaching, some knowledge of one of the other modern foreign languages taught in the School is desirable.

This position entails teaching classes in Italian across a wide range of levels, conducting research leading to publication, designing courses and teaching materials, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, coaching students in the writing of essays, mentoring and evaluating students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, and participating in the faculty decision-making of the Department of World Languages.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

The Department of French and Italian at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of "Transnational Italian Studies." The expected start date is July 1, 2020.

We solicit applications from scholars of Italy with a primary research interest in transnational studies, and invite applicants working in any period in Italian Studies, Comparative Literature, History, Art History, Sociology, Anthropology, Global Studies, or other cognate fields as long as they can demonstrate a research focus in transnational issues and the capacity to teach courses with a strong cultural component.

Preferred fields of specialization include transnational / diasporic studies, migration studies, Mediterranean studies, translation studies, postcolonial theory. The successful hire will be expected to foster curricular and research integration with departments across the humanities and social sciences, from Global and International Studies and History to Art History, Sociology, Religious Studies, Film and Media Studies, and Black Studies, among others, as well as programs such as Comparative Literature and Middle Eastern Studies.

Required minimum qualification: ABD or equivalent at the time of application, and completion of the Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in one of the areas listed above by the start date of the position. Other requirements include: native or near-native competence in Italian and in English; demonstrated capacity for top-level research, teaching, and administrative service; research productivity commensurate with years of experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

With the Faculty Advisor’s oversight, undertakes the following:

Teaching: Two or Three adjunct maintenance classes – 6 hours/week Tutoring: 4-5 hours weekly (when needed)

Assistance to tenure-track/tenure professor: Supports instruction and activities 2-3hours weekly (when needed) Cultural Programming:  This is the most time-intensive portion of the job.  In charge of the cultural programming for the Italian Language House.  Live with students who want to speak the language. Organize and promote cultural activities (i.e. dinners, cooking classes, movie nights, language “tables”, campus-wide cultural activities). Design and maintain a Facebook page and Instagram account.

With the Residential Life Coordinator’s oversight, undertakes the following:

Attend Residential Life training sessions at the beginning of each semester, and sessions during the semester as needed

Maintain appropriate documentation and records for the Cultural Coordinator position 

Organize, plan, and execute cultural programs for house residents and the campus community; continually integrating cultural experiences into the residential community

Collaborate with the Director of Study Abroad and Residential Life Coordinator to create programs to prepare students for experiences abroad, and reconnect students returning from abroad

Actively recruit and select house members, working under the direction of the Residential Life Coordinator

Meet monthly with the Residential Life Coordinator and faculty advisor/mentor

Coordinate the storage and maintenance of items provided to the house by the Office of Residential Life

Be a visible presence in the house and serving as a role model to house residents, abiding by all College and Residential Life policies

Contact student staff (Resident Advisor) when policy violations are encountered; keeping the Resident Advisor and/or Residential Life Coordinator informed about any concerns regarding the house or its members

-Must support and contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity at Colorado College and work effectively with the many constituencies on campus.

-  Assists in promoting a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following College procedures; requesting and using appropriate protective equipment; and participating in appropriate safety training.

CIMA (Center for Italian Modern art) - Fellowships (2020-21)[1][]

CIMA 2020–21 Fellowships

Each year the Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) awards multiple CIMA Fellowships to support research and study of Italian modern and contemporary art for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars. Citizens of all nationalities are eligible. CIMA offers a unique experience to its fellows: the annual exhibition serves as a hub for scholars from diverse academic backgrounds to share research derived from the artworks on view with each other and the public. The exhibition for CIMA’s next season (October 2020–June 2021) focuses on Mario Schifano and his American years.

High Point University - Assistant Professor of Italian (Non Tenure Track) 

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Cultures at High Point University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Italian (Non-Tenure Track) to begin in August 2020.
