Bryn Mawr College (PA) - TT Asst. Professor - Modern Italian Studies

The Department of Italian and Italian Studies at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, beginning Assistant Professor position to begin August 1, 2018 in Modern Italian Studies. Applicants will be expected to enhance the interdisciplinary curriculum of the department and organize our major in Italian Studies around a global focus at the intersection with other fields such as: philosophy, intellectual history, architecture, music studies, environmental humanities/ethics/eco-criticism. The ideal candidate will also have a second specialization and strong expertise in foreign language pedagogy with the capacity to coordinate and teach our rigorous beginning language program on a regular basis as an important aspect of his/her contribution to the department. Candidates must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by the start date.

Harvard University (MA) - TT Asst. Professor - Italian Medieval Literature and Culture

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Italian Medieval literature and culture. We seek candidates with strong interdisciplinary interests, scholarly depth, and a capacity for innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester and including required and elective courses in Italian and Romance Studies. He or she will be expected to contribute to the building of new and innovative programs across the romance fields and university-wide. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2018.

Candidates may specialize in any area of Italian medieval studies (including Dante or Boccaccio Studies, the literature of the duecento or trecento, manuscript studies, the religious lyric, early prose, and the Sicilian School), but are expected to have a broad overall command of Italian literary history. Cross-disciplinary interests and training in such fields as history, anthropology, music, cultural economics, media history, and the history of art and architecture, among others, are welcome.

San Diego State University (CA) - TT Asst. Professor - French and Italian Studies

The Department of European Studies at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in French and Italian studies, to start in August 2018. Research specialization is open, though fields of particular interest include pre-20th century studies with a focus on history of ideas, science and technology, biopolitics, material and visual culture, or other relevant areas. We seek a dynamic colleague who can complement, strengthen, and expand the competencies of our department and contribute to fostering innovative collaborations with faculty in the College of Arts and Letters and other units on campus.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be able to teach across the undergraduate curriculum in French and Italian, as well as the graduate curriculum in French. The faculty member may also teach in the European Studies undergraduate program. The faculty member is expected to participate in department and university service and to contribute to curricular development.

Required Qualifications: Applicant must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate field no later than December 31, 2017. Native or near-native fluency in French and Italian and excellent knowledge of English. A record of scholarly research with evidence of participation in professional growth activities consistent with experience in the field combined with a strong research program. Ability and willingness to teach courses in French at all levels of the curriculum (graduate and undergraduate). Ability and willingness to teach courses in Italian at all levels of the curriculum (undergraduate). Ability and willingness to engage actively in departmental and university service. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Preferred qualification: Ability and willingness to teach pre-20th century topics in undergraduate courses in French and Italian and in graduate courses in French.

Desired Qualifications: Previous experience in the U.S. university system. Ability and willingness to direct a language program and to serve as undergraduate/graduate advisor. Ability to contribute to undergraduate and graduate program revision. Ability and willingness to develop innovative interdisciplinary courses. Ability and willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses in European Studies.

The ideal candidate should have a track record of teaching college-level courses in both French and Italian. The faculty member would be expected to contribute to graduate-level teaching in French in his or her area(s) of research interest. In addition, the new hire should expect to serve on master’s thesis or exam committees.

Yonsei University (South Korea) - TT Asst. Professor - pre-1800 European Literature

The Underwood International College of Yonsei University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in pre-1800 European literature at the international campus in Songdo, Incheon, located in the greater Seoul metropolitan region. Harvard University (MA) - Lauro de Bosis Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Committee for the Lauro De Bosis Lectureship in the History of Italian Civilization at Harvard University seeks candidates who attained their Ph.D. (or equivalent) within the past five years (January 2013 or after), for a postdoctoral fellowship in any aspect of Italian culture, history, or society, to be held during the academic year 2018-2019. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) before the date of application.

The fellowship may be awarded for one or two semesters, depending on the proposed research project; it carries a stipend of $30,000 for one semester or $60,000 for two semesters. The recipient of the fellowship will be expected to be in residence in Cambridge for the entire period of her or his appointment, and to use the resources of the University to pursue a project with a substantial Italian component. He or she will also receive reimbursements of up to $2,000 to help cover moving and transportation costs and up to $1,000 per semester towards research-related expenses. The De Bosis Fellow may be offered the opportunity to teach a course or organize a workshop at Harvard, and will be expected to make a seminar presentation of his or her work.
