Central Washington University (WA) - TT Assistant Professor, Scholarly Communciations Librarian Edit
Serves as Department Head for the Digital Initiatives department. Leads development and activities of the Library's Institutional Repository, including outreach initiatives and assessing the effectiveness of those initiatives and services. Collaborates with faculty, students and other campus partners on education resources, copyright compliance, scholarly communications programs, and designing and implementing assessment initiatives. Contributes to the ongoing development of CWU libraries' instruction program. The position is responsible for utilizing best practices to provide metadata, technical and academic support for ScholarWorks digital platform, promoting interest in the library as a community resource, and assisting in planning and organizing special programs involving the use of library resources. This position will engage in embedded librarianship/liaison activities, instruction, and reference duties as part of the strategic mission of the Brooks Library. The Librarian participates in appropriate faculty and professional activities, including serving on college and departmental committees, and professional involvement and activity at the state and national levels.
- Serves as Department Head for the Digital Initiatives department.
- Manage the daily operation of the IR, including working with IR software, adding and editing content, metadata creation, analyzing usage data, and training other library staff in IR functions.
- Follow emerging developments in scholarly communications and open access and discern their implications to library and faculty stakeholders, advising library, and university leadership.
- Design and implement a program of scholarly communications outreach initiatives, and assess the effectiveness of those initiatives and services to the campus. Create and update IR policies, procedures, and other necessary documentation.
- Collaborate with library and campus partners to create and maintain education resources for faculty and students on copyright compliance within a framework of confident, well-informed decisions regarding fair use.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with the CWU Multimodal, CWU Graduate and Professional Studies, Institutional Effectiveness, and other units on issues and programs to related scholarly communications.
- Assist the CWU Libraries' leadership in developing a vision for policies, strategies, programs, and staffing that supports and advances emerging new modes of scholarly expression by faculty throughout the university, including the development of a CWU-supported publication system.
- Investigate, evaluate, recommend and implement new technologies to improve search functionality, navigation, and usability.
- Recommends priorities, policies, and procedures for the identification, creation, conversion and preservation of digital content.
- Develops, maintains, and provides enhancements to digital library applications to ensure effective and efficient delivery of library digital resources and services.
- Manages project workflows for digital collections, faculty work profiles, and electronic graduate thesis submission.
- Responsible for providing reports and statistical data on activities of the Digital Initiatives department which include developing usability studies related to digital collections and access.
- Chair ScholarWorks Committee, leading committee meetings and using these meetings to identify digital case priorities and to discuss policies and procedures.
- Provides instruction and outreach duties to the community, classes, and groups which includes training and instruction on creation and use of digital collections and may include teaching credit-bearing courses.
Scholarship and Service
- Meet the criteria of, and participates in, the university's peer review processes for advancement in rank, in accordance with the university's standards for reappointment, promotion, tenure and post-tenure review.
- Participate in appropriate faculty and professional activities and actively participate in Library, University and professional committees and task forces.
- Actively seek additional resources in support of Library's goals through university-funded programs and external grant opportunities.
- As a member of the Library Council, make recommendations to the Dean on issues of planning, coordination and organization.
- As a faculty member, practice effective teaching for some University 101 classes and credit-bearing courses.
- May provide reference services in the main library, including occasional night and weekend hours.
- Complete special projects, committee assignments and other duties as assigned by the Dean of Libraries.
- MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution or an equivalent terminal degree.
- Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly communications issues in academic research libraries and of scholarly enterprise at research universities.
- Working knowledge of digitization standards and formats, copyright, rights management and academic publishing practices, including familiarity with one or more major descriptive metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MIX, MODS, PREMIS, or others).
- Demonstrated marketing and outreach skills to discover and recruit institutional scholarly input, research data, and other content for inclusion in the institutional repository; ability to participate in grant and other external funding opportunities in support of the library's mission and strategic goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, students, administrators, staff and general public; ability and skill in team-building, fostering effective communication and collaboration across diverse departments and with people with broadly varying technical skill levels.

The Kent State University School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of cultural heritage informatics, with a focus in the archives area.
In the digital era, libraries, archives, and museums are converging around their shared interests in building, merging, managing, preserving, and making accessible heterogeneous cultural heritage collections in ways that reach across institutional boundaries and create collective solutions to common problems. The faculty of the School of Library and Information Science seeks an outstanding colleague with primary research and teaching interests in archival studies within the broadly conceived domain of cultural heritage informatics. Candidates’ background and interests may include such areas as:
• Archival informatics, including digital archives and libraries, and digital humanities;
• Community archives and archiving;
• Convergence of libraries, archives, and museums through information technologies such as digitization and linked data;
• Design, evaluation, and use of collections, records, data/metadata, and digital asset management systems for cultural heritage resources;
• Digital preservation and curation;
• Human-computer interaction in relation to the use of digital cultural heritage;
• Personal archiving;
• Uses/reuses and users of cultural heritage materials.
Candidates will find multiple opportunities for collaboration with faculty in established areas of expertise such as digital preservation, metadata and the semantic web, and museum studies. SLIS features research and teaching facilities supporting cultural heritage informatics, including digitization and data science laboratories and MuseLab, a creative and collaborative exhibit space supporting the museum studies specialization.
Candidates must have a doctorate in Library and Information Science or a related field at the time of hire and demonstrate evidence of strong potential for research and scholarly activity, publications and successful grant applications in one or more of the above research areas. Candidates should be able to teach at least one of the School’s core courses. Experience in online teaching is preferred.
