Tenure Track Position at University of Washington in Interaction Design[edit | edit source]

The Division of Design in the School of Art + Art History + Design at the University of Washington in Seattle invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Interaction Design to start in September 2020. This position has a nine-month service period.

The University of Washington’s Interaction Design program shapes the experiences of products, systems, and services: mobile and wearable computing, connected devices, and interactive systems that affect personal, social and societal contexts. Building on a careful analysis of insights
from first hand research in today’s world, students in the IxD program envision and prototype relevant, appropriate, delightful, and sustainable experiences that push the boundaries of the relationship between people and technology.

This position will utilize pedagogy and research approaches that are expanding current definitions of design, and will engage in critical, inventive and experimental work in Interaction Design. The person in this position will be expected to contribute and collaborate effectively in our community of Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Visual Communication Design, as well as to collaborate across campus and thrive amongst Seattle’s fast-moving design and technology industry. The candidate’s teaching will include all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The person in this position will take an active role
in shaping the future of Interaction Design and the design graduate program.

Applicants will have a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, by the start
of the appointment, as well as a minimum of two years of professional
industry or academic experience. The ideal candidate combines knowledge of
design theory, methods and research techniques.

  • Candidates should have prior teaching experience, at least one semester, in Information Technology, Information Studies, or a related applied computing discipline at the undergraduate or graduate level, which could have been as a teaching assistant, adjunct, or full-time faculty. Evidence of research activities, such as peer-reviewed publications (at least two), in evidence-based, secure, or human-centered computing is required.
  • Finally, candidates should have prior engagement in activities, at least one, that provide service to their academic unit, College, University and/or the community.

The School of Information Technology confers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology (PhD). Kent State University’s School of Information (iSchool) invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant

Professor. The iSchool is part of the College of Communication and Information (CCI), a unique collaboration

that brings together five distinct but interrelated fields of study – media, design, communication, information,

and digital technologies. CCI faculty are creative, dynamic, and interdisciplinary and the iSchool seeks

candidates that fully embrace the opportunities that the College offers for transdisciplinary collaboration

among our fields. The iSchool features the same interdisciplinarity and collaborative spirit in our approach to

The School of Information offers MS degrees in user experience design, health informatics, knowledge

management, and an MLIS in library and information science. All iSchool graduate programs are offered

online, including the User Experience Design (UXD) MS, and attract students from across the U.S. and

internationally. All degree programs in the iSchool receive university resources for instructional design

support, including UXD. The iSchool faculty also teach in an undergraduate, face-to-face UXD minor, in

partnership with the School of Visual Communication Design.

• Professional experience in the practice of user experience research and design, human-computer

• Research and/or design experience in specialized areas including, but not limited to augmented reality

(AR), virtual reality (VR), multi-modal interaction, conversational / artificial intelligence (AI) interaction,
