This position is within the Responsible Technology Group at DTU Management. The group is a key player in DTU’s strategic aim to foster ‘technology for people’, i.e. to put human needs and aspirations at the centre of technological development. It is interdisciplinary and focused on the processes through which technologies are developed and implemented in a socially sustainable and responsible manner. The group is in the process of establishment and our new assistant professor will be part of shaping the future trajectory of research and teaching.
You must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Preferably, you have a PhD within Science and Technology Studies, perhaps with undergraduate and graduate studies in other relevant areas from the social sciences, humanities or design. You should have experience with research relevant to the issue of responsibility in technology and innovation, and be interested in working with a variety of technological domains.
After maximum 6 years you will be evaluated by an external assessment committee, and if evaluated positively, you will acquire a permanent Associate Professorship.
As part of the group it will be your responsibility to conduct research, supervision and teaching with relevance to the general theme of responsible technology. The group is working across a number of technological domains with a focus on communication and values. We aim to become a leading research environment for the study of responsible technology, focused on themes such as public engagement, legitimacy, ethics, co-creation, responsible innovation and science and democracy. You will be expected to design a research portfolio which aligns with this.
You will be engaged in high-end publications, grant procurement and experimental outreach in collaboration with other team members. You will also participate in research-based teaching and supervision with associated examination commitments at bachelor, master and PhD levels. The group is responsible for teaching ‘theory of science’ to the entire cohort of undergraduate students at DTU and you will be part of developing this course as well as teaching in other relevant areas, e.g. as part of the Design and Innovation study programme

The candidate will lead a Max Planck Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) and is expected to teach and conduct research in the History of Science and the History of Knowledge at the Freie Universität Berlin.
The standard teaching load is one course (2 hours per week) per semester.
Early-career researchers are sought who demonstrate an excellent research record in the area of the history of science/the history of knowledge. The applicant’s qualifications in a specific subject area should relate to one of the following disciplines: humanities, social sciences, human sciences, natural sciences, engineering, or an interdisciplinary field such as area studies, cultural studies, digital humanities etc. The candidate’s research interests in the history of science/the history of knowledge should align with those of the participating institutions.
