Return to AcademicJobSearch

The objective of this page is to allow applicants to share updates with each other about the status of their academic job applications in the History and Philosophy of Science. By sharing information about the dates and status of phone interviews, on-campus visits, and job offers, readers can keep abreast of search committee progress. If you cannot find a job or postdoc on this page check Humanities & Soc Sci Postdocs 2008-2009 or History 2008-2009.

Suggestions for making additions to this page:

1. In order to keep this page neat and readable, read the Editing Tutorial for information about editing and formatting.

2. Add new positions in alphabetical order by the university name and include position deadlines.

3. Begin comments with an asterisk in order to create a bullet point. Include the date of comments.

Job Listings[]

Iowa State University[]

  • Deadline: Screening begins November 3, 2008

Kent State University[]

  • Deadline: December 1, 2008
  • Anybody heard anything here?
  • Just got an email and phone call yesterday (12/9) setting up an AHA interview.
  • Email update last week saying they would make a decision about on-campus short list by the end of this week (1/16)
  • Email 1/16 "yellow-lighting" search. They seem to have their short list, just can't release it until they are sure this job is still on offer. Huge bummer if it isn't.
  • Any news here?
  • As of 4:00 PM pacific, no.
  • Hmm. They're killing me here. Wish they'd lay it on the line.
  • They have been very good about telling us when they know things, so I will assume they just don't have any information from the administration. However, I would assume that, in this academic economy, any job that gets yellow lighted is, de facto, red lighted. Imho. I'll be pleasantly surprised if otherwise, though.

As of today, 01/27/09, the search is suspended until further notice. It may be that they will have funding, but it is unclear and they will not know for an indeterminate length of time. Too bad.

I heard they were interviewing at HSS? Yes, they did. As of 12/12, campus interviews have been scheduled.

  • Did anyone who couldn't attend HSS hear anything? So far I haven't even gotten a thank-you-for-applying note. Guess that means another one just bit the dust
  • Anyone know anything more about this? Talked to non-SC OSU faculty at HSS and received cryptic response, as if this could be in-house. (2/9)
  • Finally received a letter from the chair of the search committee to whom I'd written inquiring about search status, informing me that the search was completed and they had made an offer.
