PROGRAM SUMMARY: The Writing & Literature program at CCA offers a BA in Writing & Literature and delivers instruction to all students in composition, literature, and creative writing. Faculty in Writing & Literature may also have the opportunity to teach graduate-level courses, including those in the MFA Writing program. Both writing programs are part of the Humanities & Sciences Division, which also offers the general education curriculum for all undergraduate students in the college. The general education curriculum consists of courses in writing, literature, visual studies, history, philosophy, math, and science. In keeping with its mission of delivering a liberal arts education through the arts, CCA offers a strong academic component that supports students' work in their majors while adding to the breadth of knowledge they encounter.

POSITION SUMMARY: CCA is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in contemporary literature with an emphasis in creative nonfiction writing and world literature, to begin August 2017.

The successful candidate will have an exceptional teaching record at the college level and will also demonstrate experience in teaching creative nonfiction writing. We are particularly interested in applicants with a literature background that supplements current program offerings and reflects the concerns and demographics of an international school situated within the unique culture and interdisciplinary environment of the San Francisco Bay Area. We are also interested in applicants whose creative practices promise to connect with the College's fine art, design, and architecture students/faculty. This practice might be related to film, journalism, digital essay writing, and the relationship between prose and other types of narrative.

We seek a candidate with a global perspective, who has the potential to teach 200-level electives and 300-level seminars in her or his area of expertise, which may include introductory and advanced literature and creative writing courses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree: PhD in literature (or an equivalent field) or MFA in Creative Writing. Minimum of three years postdoctoral/post-MFA college level teaching experience. Significant publishing record; at least one book of creative nonfiction writing in a nationally recognized venue. Demonstrated active and ongoing participation in professional/ scholarly/ creative work (through a record of presentations, workshops, publications, conferences, etc.). Ability to balance professional practice with teaching and service to the college. Strong evidence of administrative ability, graduate teaching experience, and commitment to collaboration are highly desirable. Leadership potential, with strong communication and interpersonal skills along with the flexibility to work across disciplines and to collaborate and develop relationships with other programs.

Dalton State College (GA) - TT Asst. Professor - English[]

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of English beginning August 2017. Requires a genuine interest in and commitment to teaching freshman composition and lower-division courses in the humanities. A firm commitment to a learning-centered teaching process. Applicants who have experience in teaching ESL, who have credentials to teach in Rhetoric and Composition, or who have experience teaching multicultural literature (especially Hispanic or Latino), may be given preference.

Responsibilities of the position include teaching eight classes per academic year. Teaching assignments may be day, evening, or weekends, possibly at off-campus locations. Academic advising, committee work, planning and assessment, other College and community service, and professional development. Other such duties as assigned by the chair of English.

Required: Ph.D. in English (with a minimum of 18 semester/30 quarter graduate hours in English). The salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. An on-campus interview and teaching demonstration will be required prior to an official offer of the position. We seek to hire scholars whose research fits into either or both of the following themes: 1) identity, experience, and representation ; and, 2) structural and institutional inequality . Successful candidates will compete in an interdisciplinary pool and have a record of accomplishment in one or more areas, including but not limited to: American studies, anthropology, art history, cognitive science, economics, English, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology, linguistics, history, neuroscience, philosophy, political science, psychology, public health, Spanish, sociology, women’s studies, and world heritage.

Assistant professor candidates should show promise of research excellence and creativity, while candidates for associate and full professor ranks should have a record of research excellence and creativity. King Chair in Literature honoring the department’s most celebrated graduate. The teaching load consists of three 4-credit hour classes per year, primarily in the first-year, team-taught, interdisciplinary Honors core seminar "Welcome to Thinking," though also occasionally in other core and special topics Honors seminars. Honors faculty are also expected to mentor students outside the classroom and help support the program's many learning community initiatives during the academic year.

The other major responsibility of the Adamson chair will be to build and direct Westminster's Distinguished Fellowships Advising program, which will be housed in the institution's new Honors College but which will serve the entire campus. Finally, the chair will oversee the annual Kim T. Adamson Lecture in International Studies, which brings a prominent speaker to campus once a year. The Adamson chair will report to the dean of the new Honors College.

Westminster's Honors program has a thirty-year history of serving high-achieving students who want to challenge themselves in an alternative general education program consisting entirely of interdisciplinary, team-taught seminars that employ primary texts. The program currently enrolls 170 students, though that number is growing. Honors students come from all majors across campus, are academically successful (97% first-year retention rate the past two years), and go on to successful careers in law, medicine, higher education, and business. The program attracts some of Westminster's strongest faculty, including 6 winners of the Gore Excellence in Teaching Award, which is given to one faculty member each year at commencement.

Required Qualifications: Earned doctoral degree in English or World Literatures, History, or Philosophy, or an affiliated field, demonstrated teaching excellence, and a desire to work closely with high-achieving students in a small college, liberal arts setting. Nord University, Faculty of Professional Studies, invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship in English canonical English/American literature. The position is connected to the Centre for Practical Knowledge (CPK). The duration of the postdoctoral fellowship is three years. The postdoctoral fellowship is a fixed term position with the aim of qualifying for professor. Its purpose is to expand and develop the English Department through research and development in the field of canonical English and/or American literature. Approaches based on narratology or poetics are a possibility. The successful applicant will be expected contribute to collaborations with international and national research groups and take part in the faculty’s language and literature research group.

Qualification requirements: Appointment to the position as postdoctoral researcher in English-language literature presupposes a doctoral degree in English-language literature and a proven track record of scholarship that meets the international standard in the field.

The application is to be written in English. All skills deemed relevant for the position must be documented, including the doctoral dissertation and transcripts from Bachelor, Master and doctoral degrees. Based on the materials submitted, the candidate for the position will be evaluated by an external expert committee against the criteria below (in order of priority).

PhD in English/American Literature. Candidates will be further evaluated on the basis of the institution’s reputation in the subject area (cf. international rankings) and grades throughout their academic career, with an emphasis on the higher. The applicant is to enclose a proposal for the research to be carried out during the postdoctoral period. The proposal should address the aims, objectives and questions to be addressed in the project, describe the methods and approaches used, and provide a project plan that addresses how results will be disseminated, ethical dimensions, the nature of any collaboration, and the expected impact.

Track record of teaching Applicants who, on appointment, have not documented basic teaching skills (e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent/higher accreditation) will be required to acquire these skills within a two-year period, e.g. through Nord University’s accreditation program.

Track record of excellent research in relevant areas (cf. Norway’s national research information system CRIStin, http://www.cristin.no). Both quality, number of publications and impact will be evaluated, with an emphasis on results in peer-reviewed publication venues achieved within the last five years. In addition to scholarly qualifications and professional teaching experience, relevant experience teaching especially English Literature at university/college level will be deemed important. In evaluating and ranking the applicants, personal suitability for the position will be given considerable weight. Candidates of interest will be called for an interview and a trial lecture. The result of these will be decisive for the appointment.
