Allen University is seeking applicants to fill several full-time positions at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2016. Responsibilities include teaching freshmen composition and upper division courses relevant to the applicant’s field of research. Writing center experience is also desirable. 

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have completed a PhD in Rhetoric/Composition or English by August 1, 2016. The normal teaching load is 5/5, so applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with the experience of the applicant.

Regis University (CO) - Director of First-Year Experience[]

The First-Year Experience [FYE] at Regis University is our foundational core in which new students are given a cohesive introduction to our academic culture and Jesuit mission. The FYE Director will provide leadership for the program and have administrative oversight for all first-year seminar courses, which include a foundational writing course in the fall semester for all students, and a linked communication intensive course in the spring semester. In this role, the Director will offer faculty development and support in the areas of composition and communication as well as work to build a strong academic community within the first-year cohort. Ideally, candidates for this position will demonstrate an ability to excel at both the programmatic and faculty levels by overseeing a range of responsibilities in each area. Since the FYE is the first contact faculty and staff have with our incoming students, the Director will partner with offices and departments across the campus to create a welcoming, yet intellectually challenging, environment for our new students. This includes fostering increased collaborations within and between colleges that share responsibility for traditional undergraduate students as well as working closely with Enrollment Management and the Learning Commons to encourage student success.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Lead efforts to enhance First-Year Experience quality and sustainability, and in so doing to deliver the programming and education students expect when they matriculate to Regis; Faculty Advisory Responsibilities: develop and implement faculty workshops around composition and communication, offer pedagogical support for FYE faculty through meetings and observations, develop resources on composition and communication for faculty development, partner with faculty to establish a repertoire of curricular models for teaching composition and communication across the disciplines, recruit and oversee faculty and peer writing mentors to teach within the FYE, oversee the First-Year Reading program, and establish relationships with faculty departments and programs to create an inclusive and sustainable FYE program.

Programmatic Responsibilities: create the annual FYE schedule of courses and events calendar, work on electronic and print promotional materials with the University Marketing and Communications Office and Admissions, manage the program budget, partner with the Regis College Associate Dean for Operations and Student Life to create co-curricular programs and activities in support of the FYE including new student orientation, chair the FYE Advisory Group, partner with the Enrollment Office to assess retention and graduation rates, collaborate with the Directors of the Learning Commons and the Commitment Program to address student progression, and gather and analyze program assessment data and reports. Provide leadership and promote best practices surrounding the use of e-Portfolios in the FYE. Mentor faculty as they adopt e-Portfolios for their courses, and incorporate programmatic assessments with evolving e-Portfolio capabilities. Promote diversity and inclusion through the FYE. Help foster success for under-represented and under-served students at Regis. Collaborate with other key stakeholders on diversity initiatives (such as first-generation mentoring programs) to help generate success for all students. Teach at least one course per semester.

Basic Function: The faculty member will be required to:

I haven't received a request for an interview prior to this email. Has anyone else received a similar email request?   • Antioch is a clueless college. I applied for this same postion a few year ago and I needed visa. After skype interivew they asked me if I will need visa. I said yes. I never heard back from them. They are still in the same situation. They could simply say in the ad they cannot sponsor or make people do application form that asks if you will need visa question as most universities do. Instead they reject you after interviewing you. They need to get their act together.

When I sought confirmation by email (because it seemed so odd), I was told that, indeed, MMA was "in the process of extending an offer of employment to another person." Faculty members teaching in the Department of Focused Inquiry participate in shared curricula, with the expectation that students across all sections of a course achieve similar learning objectives. Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of UNIV 111, 112, and 200, which students are expected to complete in their first two years. This three-semester interdisciplinary course sequence is learner-centered and promotes integrative thinking as well as student engagement, with a particular emphasis on written and oral communication, critical thinking, collaborative learning, information fluency, and ethical reasoning.
