Auckland University of Technology - Lecturer in Gastronomy/Food Studies (PERMANENT FULL TIME)

The School of Hospitality and Tourism in the Faculty of Culture and Society is seeking to make an appointment in Gastronomy and other food related studies at the Lecturer level. AUT has four campuses in the greater Auckland area and the School of Hospitality and Tourism is situated on the city campus in the heart of Auckland. The School of Hospitality and Tourism is positioning itself as a leading provider of culinary arts, events, hospitality, and tourism education, providing an array of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
The Lecture in Gastronomy / Food Studies will be expected to take an active role in teaching, from undergraduate level through to post graduate level. There will be an increasing need for postgraduate supervision and the opportunity to develop postgraduate papers in Gastronomy and other food related studies. Participation in community and business outreach relevant to the tourism field will be encouraged as will involvement with the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute (http://www.nztri.org).

Baruch College CUNY - Assistant/Associate - Food Policy

The School of Public Affairs at Baruch College invites applications for a scholar of food policy. The start date is August 2014, the rank is assistant or associate professor, and the appointment is tenure-track. 
Areas of specialization of primary interest include food production and distribution, food security, food choice and diet-related health outcomes, access to healthy food, and agriculture and nutrition policy. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work has both domestic and global implications. The candidate should have a strong commitment to building a series of food policy elective courses for students in our BS and MPA programs in coordination with other public affairs faculty. In addition, the candidate must teach core courses in statistics and quantitative research methods or microeconomics at the Masters level. The Evergreen State College seeks a faculty member with expertise in sustainable food systems and food justice. Applicants must be able to teach topics related to food sovereignty and food security through the lens of food/agricultural policy, production, distribution, trade or consumption at the local, regional and global level. The successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability to teach food and agricultural policy in a historical context. In addition, the successful candidate must have experience in community food advocacy. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) plus practical experience working with community food advocacy or a Master’s degree plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience with NGOs, non-profit organizations and/or government agencies on issues of food justice, community food advocacy/food sovereignty or related fields (2 of the 5 years must be post-master’s degree);
• Ability to teach topics related to food sovereignty and food security through the lens of food/agricultural policy, production, distribution, trade or consumption at the local, regional and/or global level;
• Ability to teach food and agriculture policy in a historical context;
• College level teaching experience;
• Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at all levels;
• Strong interest in contributing to a curriculum that emphasizes connecting theory to practice.

• Desire to continue community food advocacy work with undergraduate students;

The Community and Regional Development (CRD) program of the Department of Human Ecology at the University of California, Davis announces an opening for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. We seek outstanding candidates with a promising research program in Food Systems and Value-Added Agricultural Networks. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong social science research agenda, inter-disciplinary and multi-dimensional perspectives, substantial capacity for generating extra-mural funding to support their research program, and a record or promise of excellence in teaching and mentoring students. University of Colorado - Assistant Professor - Sustainable Food Systems

The University of Colorado seeks candidates for a position of assistant professor with expertise in sustainable food systems or related fields of food harvest or production and its environmental implications. The environmental consequences of human food needs are inherently interdisciplinary, in that they involve ecological processes, natural resource management, policies to address equity and security, public health, and human values and decisions. We seek candidates with research explicitly focused on the interactions between food systems and the supporting environment. Topical research foci for this position could include (but are not limited to): environmental effects of locally, organically-grown, and genetically-modified food, aquaculture, traditional and indigenous agricultural systems; sustainable fisheries; links between fuel and food production and environmental conservation; food justice; or energy and water use in agriculture. York University - Assistant Professor - Food Studies

The Faculty of Environmental Studies (FES) at York University, Toronto, invites applications for the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Food Studies to commence July 1, 2014. A PhD in a related field is required at the time of appointment. We are seeking applicants working in the field of food and culture, especially those doing arts-based research and cultural production. We also welcome applicants with the capacity to conduct community-based research on local food and social justice issues in Toronto, such as urban agriculture and food planning. The successful candidate will have outstanding potential in a field that combines the cultural, social, political, economic, and ecological dimensions of food and food systems.

Applicants should have excellent publication records and practical experience, and be able to provide leadership in interdisciplinary research and action in the area of Food Studies. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated capacity to teach skills related to analysis and engagement in this field. FES has an existing strength in policy and regulatory analysis of food systems. We seek to support and expand our research and teaching programs in food studies. We welcome applicants with expertise in the fields of food justice, food sovereignty and engagement in food movements. Project management skills would also be an asset. Summary

The University of Vermont is a world leader in the transdisciplinary field of food systems scholarship, teaching, and outreach.  We seek candidates to join us in building our capacity to understand the interconnected aspects of the modern food system and to develop creative models for sustainable food systems. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of collaborative, transdisciplinary work and a desire to engage with colleagues across UVM colleges and departments. Position details

Applicants should demonstrate a record of food systems scholarship and expertise, a strong understanding of and experience with a systems approach to food and sustainability issues, and experience working with a variety of research methods. Potential areas of scholarly interest include, but are not limited to, sustainable food production, nutrition and health, behavior and culture, and public policy.

Candidates should also demonstrate a track record of collaborative, transdisciplinary research undertaken from a systems perspective. The ideal candidate for this position will help lead the institutional efforts to develop a strong, internationally-recognized research, teaching and outreach program in sustainable food systems.

Position responsibilities include food systems scholarship, instruction, and outreach. Specific expectations regarding requirements for funded research, outreach, and instruction will be informed by the appropriate departmental home to be determined based on the specialization of the successful candidate.

Candidates with a PhD (or equivalent received by start date) in the natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences or humanities who are interested in food systems and transdisciplinary approaches to creating and sharing knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Located within walking distance of the Vancouver campus, the UBC Farm site is a 24-hectare mosaic of cultivated field areas, hedgerows, orchards, and successional forest stands that is host to both a full-scale working farm as well as children’s garden projects, an Aboriginal food hub, a practicum in sustainable agriculture, and an array of research projects.

The Department of Natural Resource Sciences at McGill University seeks an innovative scholar for a tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of social impacts of technology. We are seeking a motivated, broad thinking scholar whose research focuses on the response of society to innovation in the environment-agriculture-food-nutrition-health continuum. Research areas could include but are not limited to, policy and governance, economics, factors affecting knowledge and acceptance of technologies, and the roles of new technologies in international development and food security. In addition to establishing a significant and externally-funded research program, the successful candidate is expected to teach courses and mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to be a strong participant in McGill’s interdisciplinary Institute of Global Food Security. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in social or natural sciences and demonstrated ability in research and teaching; experience in working with the private and/or public sectors will be considered an asset.
