Lingnan University (Hong Kong) - Associate Professor of Film and Media in Department of Visual Studies: The Department of Visual Studies (VS) offers a multi-disciplinary course of study, focusing on art history and film art. VS admits about 30 undergraduate, MPhil and PhD students each academic year. The BA (Hons) in Visual Studies curriculum emphasises the history and theory of visual arts and culture in Asia and beyond; in addition, the programme offers students practical, object- and skill-based learning through studio practice, video production, curating and internships. The Department also offers a taught Master’s programme in Curating and Art History (MACAH). Another new taught Master’s programme in Creative and Media Industries (MACMI) will be launched in 2021/22. VS is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor to contribute to teaching and research in the areas of media industries and film studies. The appointee is expected to: (i) teach relevant courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate final projects; (ii) to develop innovative and rigorous research and generate research outputs with high impact; and (iii) to contribute to service and development of the Department. The appointee will be expected to make substantial contribution to the developing MACMI programme, and may need to assume a concurrent appointment as the Programme Director.

General Requirements Applicants for the position should have:

(i) A PhD degree in film and media studies or a relevant discipline;

(ii) Excellent track record of teaching and research, including publications, grants and awards;

(iii) Proven record of professional services and commitment to knowledge transfer, community engagement and related activities;

(iv) Substantive experience in administration of scholarly initiatives. Applicants who can teach a wide range of subjects in film and media studies (e.g., Hong Kong cinema, independent cinema, film festivals) are of particular interest. Expertise in cultural and creative industries is highly desirable. Applicants are required to provide information about their research records and evidence of high-quality teaching in relevant subjects.

Appointment The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. The appointee is entitled to apply for both internal and external grants in support of his/her teaching, research and conference activities. Position Description

The Department of Communication in the School of Humanities at Messiah University invites applications for a term-tenure track assistant professor position in Film, Video and Digital Media Production beginning August 2021.

Responsibilities

The preferred candidate is an active filmmaker who will teach a range of introductory and upper level courses in film/digital editing and production, including courses in advanced editing and effects, film and HD production, sound, stop-motion animation, screenwriting, and other related topics, as well as a senior capstone course in the university’s interdisciplinary digital media major.  Proficiency in and ability to teach Final Cut, Premiere Pro and other Adobe applications, DaVinci Resolve, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Avid, and Dragonframe is preferred. The candidate will mentor students with individual and class projects, prepare students for professional careers in the field, and collaborate with other creative programs across campus. Contributions to the continuing development of undergraduate programming in digital humanities and significant input regarding facilities and equipment planning and decision-making are also expected. Ability to teach in the university’s general education program in areas such as non-Western topics or first-year seminars is a plus.

Qualifications

A MFA or PHD in a related discipline is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching and a creative portfolio are expected, as is evidence that the faculty member can support the University’s mission and identity as a Christian university of the liberal and applied arts and sciences. Candidates selected for further consideration will be asked to submit a sample of work via URL, a teaching philosophy statement, a sample syllabus, and three letters of recommendation.

Any movement on MIT? R1: Received a request for writing sample on 10/30 (due 11/4), but nothing since. R2: [Dec. 3] If you don't mind, I'd be interested to know more about the writing sample request. On Oct. 30, I noticed a “writing sample needed” prompt on AJO, but when I checked with the dept., I was told that they had not requested additional materials from applicants yet and didn’t know why AJO had prompted me. Shortly thereafter, the prompt on AJO disappeared. Did they reach out to you to request a writing sample? R1: I initially got an automated AJO prompt but soon after was contacted by the dept via e-mail and instructed to submit the writing sample via e-mail. R2: Thanks for clarifying! Good luck :-) R3: Any further updates? R4: [Dec 11] Got an email scheduling an interview.R3 Anyone else get email for interview? I got writing sample request and haven't heard back since, just want to be sure that if I didn't get asked for interview today, I'm out of the running...
