• 3/4: Can someone explain to me what is the deal with the recommendation letters? The application asks to input contact information (but the request is not automatically generated). Then, they also ask to upload a separate document with contact information. Does that mean they will request the letters only after a first selection (based on the contacts that you put in the uploaded document)?

Fordham University (New York City, NY). Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Race Studies (Department of Sociology and Anthropology). Deadline: May 17

• Description: The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fordham University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in critical race studies.  This is a one-year position beginning September 2021, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The successful candidate will be an early career scholar with a promising research program, and will also be able to add to the department’s undergraduate course offerings. This is an exciting time to join the Fordham community.  The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has recently added several faculty who focus on race and ethnicity.  Fordham University is actively strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the Arts and Sciences, including faculty and curricular offerings.  In addition, our cosmopolitan setting in New York City offers unparalleled opportunities for research with diverse populations.  The selected candidate will have access to professional development funding.   The position’s annual teaching load is 1-1, plus additional service including a public lecture, delivering occasional guest lectures in courses, and participating in anti-racist pedagogy workshops or curricular design efforts.  Fordham is preparing for a fully in-person fall semester, and candidates must be able to relocate to the New York area and teach on campus.  Teaching responsibility will initially be in the undergraduate program at Fordham College at Rose Hill (Bronx), with the possibility of teaching at Fordham College at Lincoln Center (Manhattan) for the second year.  
• Qualifications: Candidates should be recent Ph.D. recipients (2018–2021), or expect to have the degree in hand by August 2021.  We welcome applications from scholars who hold degrees in sociology, as well as those trained in interdisciplinary fields (such as, but not limited to, African and African American Studies, Asian and Asian American Studies, and Latinx Studies).  Candidates must be capable of teaching sociology courses on race.  Demonstrated excellence in teaching, evidence of a strong and promising research agenda, and an enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population are required.

• 02/05 - I know the job market is brutal right now, and jobs are scarce, but please be warned: the Cultural Studies program is dominated by a few senior colleagues who are openly & aggressively hostile to critical race/ethnic studies. Anyone seriously considering this position should ask around & gather some info.

• 1/30: I interviewed for the English position. Search committee mentioned there were 36 interviews this week for the 4 positions. Unclear if they will select more applicants to interview from the applicant pool but I think things will advance to the campus visit pretty soon.
