The Goodnight Family Sustainable Development Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2015. We seek broadly trained applicants with expertise in Culture and Environment, whose work is in the environmental humanities and/or the humanistic social sciences and situated in the larger context of sustainable development. The area of specialization is open. Candidates must have a PhD by the beginning of the appointment.

The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses in global and/or postcolonial environmental literature, environmental humanities, and upper-level coursework in the candidate’s area of expertise. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research and a strong desire to contribute to a vibrant, growing department. We welcome applications from candidates whose work links two or more disciplines. The department is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment.

The teaching load is three courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Faculty must be able to maintain a productive level of scholarship and participate regularly in curriculum development, student advisement, and service activities.

Applications should include: 1) a letter of interest that includes discussion of relevant scholarly research and teaching philosophy; 2) a curriculum vitae, including contact information for at least three references; and 3) a 500-word maximum statement articulating your approach to the interface of sustainable development and Culture and Environment, including a discussion of how your work will complement the department’s existing emphases on sustainable agriculture, critical development studies, and environmental studies.

The English Department of the City College (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY) announces a search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor who works in scientific humanities, post-humanities, or literary ecologies. We would particularly welcome applicants with interdisciplinary interests in one of the following: literature and cognitive science or neuroscience, literature and medicine; literature and constructing scientific communities; literature and evolutionism/Darwinism/anti-Darwinism; eco-criticism, science and religion; science and genre fiction; science, race, and ethnicity; science and sexuality; science and gender history. The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies Program, with the position starting on September 1, 2015. The successful candidate will have a commitment to both undergraduate teaching and research; area of specialization within the humanities is open. Strong preference given to candidates with ability to teach courses on environmental ethics and history of environmental thought, an introductory course on sustainability as part of our University Studies Program, plus upper level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Research focus outside of North America and Western Europe preferred.  The position involves advising ES majors and program building. Ph.D. required by time of appointment; teaching experience preferred. DAVIDSON COLLEGE, a highly-selective, nationally-ranked, residential, four-year liberal arts college located 20 minutes north of Charlotte, North Carolina, invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the level of Assistant Professor in English and Environmental Studies starting August 1, 2015. The successful candidate will teach five courses over two semesters, including the survey of American Literature from beginnings to the present, one or more courses in Environmental Literature, and courses in the applicant's areas of expertise. We also welcome applications from candidates who can teach Southern Literature.
