Central Washington University - Assistant or Associate Professor, Mathematics Education

The Mathematics Department at Central Washington University (CWU - Ellensburg, WA) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning September 2018. CWU is a public, four-year university offering baccalaureate and master's degrees within its five colleges. The Mathematics Department, part of the College of the Sciences, is an active and vibrant department of nineteen tenure-track faculty and seven full-time non-tenure track instructors. Our largest major is mathematics education, followed by actuarial science, and a variety of degrees in mathematics or applied mathematics. The department enrolls approximately 1500 students each quarter with an average class size of 30-35 students. Mathematics education classes tend to be smaller with enrollments averaging 20-25 students. With an emphasis on academic distinction, excellent teaching, and student success, CWU has a longstanding reputation as being one of the premiere institutions in the Pacific Northwest for the preparation of highly trained middle level and secondary mathematics teachers. 

Job Duties: Primary responsibilities of this position include teaching courses specifically designed for pre-service elementary, middle, and secondary teachers, as well as mathematics or statistics content courses. The successful candidate will be expected to possess superior teaching abilities, the potential for conducting scholarship and a desire to participate in department, university, and community service. Service responsibilities are likely to include advising prospective middle school and secondary teacher candidates and participating in mathematics education community service including K-12 outreach. The average teaching load is twelve credits per quarter.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Earned doctorate by September 14, 2018 in:
    • mathematics education with the equivalent of a master's degree in mathematics
    • mathematics with significant experience/education in K-12 teacher education, or
    • education with the equivalent of a master's degree in mathematics.

  • Evidence of work with K-12 teachers and/or students related to mathematics teaching
  • A willingness to participate in K-12 outreach

Missouri State University - Assistant Professor, History Education

University of Washington (WA) - Assistant Professor, Education (Literacy Instruction in Multilingual Elementary School Settings)

The University of Washington, College of Education seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time position for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Literacy Instruction in Multilingual Elementary School Settings.  We seek a colleague whose teaching and research are focused on literacy instruction (including reading and writing) in multilingual settings and motivated by goals of equity in the elementary classroom and beyond.  Our new colleague will join our Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum (TLC) area, a national leader in research on teaching, teacher learning, teacher education, and curriculum.

We are a College that takes teacher education and the teaching and learning of school subjects as central to our mission. The successful candidate will join faculty who share a commitment to equity, democracy, and justice in education and society. In particular, the candidate will join with TLC faculty in the program of Language, Literacy, and Culture as well as colleagues throughout the COE who share a commitment to equity. The successful candidate must possess: (1) an earned doctorate in Education or closely related field, with expertise in literacy instruction in multilingual settings; (2) a minimum of three years experience teaching in schools, preferably with multilingual students, and experience working with teachers; (3) previous higher education teaching and research experience; and (4) a record of scholarly publications and successful external funding, or potential for each.

We are open to candidates with a variety of methodological perspectives and scholarly interests, including but not limited to: intervention research, research-based reading practices, academic literacies, digital literacies, New Literacies, bi/multiliteracies, critical language awareness, discourse analysis, or literacy development in dual language or ESL/EAL instruction.

We are searching for a scholar with a deep and expansive understanding of scholarship and practice in K-8 literacy instruction (reading and writing). Preferred candidates must have a commitment to teacher education and teacher development, as well as experience working with teachers and multilingual students. The successful candidate will have a productive research agenda, seek external research funding, and contribute to the national and local discourse and scholarship around K-8 literacy instruction in multilingual settings. University of Washington (WA) - Assistant Professor Education (Educational Measurment)

THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON SEATTLE, College of Education, seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time position for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Educational Measurement. The UW COE Measurement & Statistics (M&S) graduate program, which began in the late 1960s, prepares students to be leaders in the research and practice of stateoftheart test development, psychometrics, and applied statistics. Both faculty and students in the program are dedicated to improving policy and equity through the practice of rigorous quantitative research methodology. At this time, we seek applicants with a doctoral degree in Educational Measurement & Statistics or closely related field (e.g., quantitative psychology), with a scholarly focus on item response theory (IRT) modeling. More specifically, applicants should demonstrate an active research program in an area such as: multilevel IRT, longitudinal IRT, differential item functioning (DIF) in IRT, other latent variable models for item-level data, large-scale test development, computer-adaptive testing, or Bayesian analysis methods for item-level data. Additionally, we anticipate that applicants will also have some expertise conducting applied research in one or more substantive areas such as classroom assessment, teacher education, special education, literacy education, or early childhood education.

The successful candidate should be prepared to (1) maintain an active research program in one or more of the areas listed above (or other synergistic areas), (2) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in educational measurement and statistics, and advise and mentor graduate students, (3) engage in grant development activities focused on quantitative methodology as well as collaborations with other faculty, and (4) engage in service to local, state, and national community partners when such opportunities arise. Teaching duties for this position will specifically include educational assessment courses for candidates in our teacher preparation programs, as well as courses in psychometrics and statistics. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and have experience with or willingness to work with a highly diverse student body.

Strong candidates would have active research agendas in policy, organizations, and/or leadership, addressing such topics as the politics of education/governance and state and federal policy, especially regarding education finance. A successful candidate will bring an explicit equity lens to such matters and a demonstrated commitment to examining and contributing to new political, organizational, or resource arrangements that foster equitable educational opportunities and outcomes especially for students traditionally underserved by public school systems. Preference will also be given to candidates who have demonstrated expertise in quantitative and/or mixed methods. Western Oregon University (OR) - Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Education (Division of Education and Leadership)

The Division of Education and Leadership at Western Oregon University invites qualified applicants for an appointment of Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education. The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing and dynamic Early Childhood Education (ECE) program dedicated to inclusive practices and social justice. The Early Childhood program offers two bachelor’s degree options; a non-licensure Early Childhood Studies major, and an Early Childhood Teaching Authorization major.  The ECE program is part of the Division of Education and Leadership in the College of Education, nationally recognized for its leadership in evidence-based teacher preparation. 

Responsibilities:


  • Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in face-to face, hybrid, and online formats, with opportunities for summer, off-campus, and international teaching
  • Supervise clinical experiences and prepare students to interact effectively with children and families in inclusive Early Childhood settings
  •  Assist undergraduate and graduate students, including academic advising
  • Participate in curriculum review and development including activities related to accreditation. Familiarity with state and national standards (NAEYC, CEC/DEC, InTASC, CAEP)

Qualifications:


  • Earned Doctorate in Early Childhood Education or closely related field (ABD considered, but the position requires completion of all doctorial requirements by September 17, 2018)
  • Evidence of at least three years successful, early childhood (birth-3rd grade) teaching experience in an educational setting (educational settings may include home visitors, classroom teachers, parent educators, EI/ECSE experience, preschool/Head Start, or K-3rd grade classrooms)

    Western Washington University (WA) - Assistant Professor, Physics and/or Astronomy Education Research

    About the Position: The ideal candidate will enhance existing strengths in undergraduate education and science teacher preparation and will contribute actively in identifying and responding to new challenges and opportunities in these areas.  Teaching assignments will be distributed evenly between courses in physics and astronomy and courses in SMATE. An active research program in Physics Education or Astronomy Education is expected, especially one that engages undergraduate research assistants and supports collaborations within and between SMATE and Physics. Service activities include departmental committees and student advising. Participation in planning and facilitating summer professional development programs for inservice K-12 teachers, with the possibility of summer salary, is encouraged.

    Non Tenure-Track Positions

    University of Washington (WA) - Research Assistant Professor, Education (STEM Education)

    The University of Washington, College of Education, seeks to fill a Research Assistant Professor position in the area of STEM education and teacher education. We seek someone with a focus on ambitious and equitable teaching practices in K-12 settings, with knowledge of responsive teaching with students from nondominant and historically disenfranchised cultures, and extensive experience conducting qualitative and quantitative educational research on professional learning. This position requires a familiarity with STEM teaching practices, theories of job-embedded professional learning opportunities, university-school partnerships and networked improvement communities. The successful candidate will be a recognized as a researcher who is developing national and international recognition in these fields. The Research Assistant Professor will also support INSPIRE and further develop professional learning opportunities with local K-12 schools. This is a multi-year, full-time, twelve-month non-tenure track position that is contingent upon available funding. There is no state funding associated with this position. The successful candidate will secure external funding for their research.

    Specifically, the Research Assistant Professor will be expected to: serve as Principal and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on research projects; write grants and develop, oversee, and execute research activities; write and collaborate on publications; coordinate research efforts across teams and support more junior scholars; support faculty in developing research-practice partnerships through INSPIRE; and publish in peer reviewed journals and other outlets recognized by the field. The Research Assistant Professor should be prepared to support scholars or practitioners of color from historically marginalized groups and provide support for enacting equitable university-community relations.

    The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in learning sciences, science or math education, and/or teacher learning and leadership and will pursue an active, funded program of research and professional development in the areas related to this position. We are especially interested in candidates who have: a deep expertise in equitable research-practice partnerships, networked improvement communities, responsive teaching, and practical measurement; knowledge of partnering with multicultural and multilingual communities, and expertise in pedagogies that incorporate students' funds of knowledge; multi-year experience in developing, managing, and facilitating professional learning for teachers; extensive experience with the Ambitious Science Teaching and the NGSS and Common Core frameworks; multi-year experience as a K-12 math or science teacher; experience in project management with strong organizational skills; and the ability to innovate in the area of instructional and organizational improvements, and connect with university departments, school sites, evaluators, and other collaborators in this regard.
