University of Washington (WA) - Assistant Professor, Education (Educational Politics, Governance, and Finance)

THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON SEATTLE, College of Education, seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time position for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the areas of Educational Politics, Governance, and Finance with a focus on educational equity and learning across P-12 settings. Strong candidates would have active research agendas in policy, organizations, and/or leadership, addressing such topics as the politics of education/governance and state and federal policy, especially regarding education finance. A successful candidate will bring an explicit equity lens to such matters and a demonstrated commitment to examining and contributing to new political, organizational, or resource arrangements that foster equitable educational opportunities and outcomes especially for students traditionally underserved by public school systems. Preference will also be given to candidates who have demonstrated expertise in quantitative and/or mixed methods. All candidates must have an earned doctorate by the date of appointment in a relevant field or discipline such as educational policy, educational finance, leadership and organizations, political science, public policy, economics, or sociology.

The faculty member will teach courses on such topics for Ph.D. and M.Ed. students across the College and be the main contributor to one or more practitioner-focused programs (e.g., Leadership for Learning [Ed.D.], the Danforth Principals Program and the Masters in Education Policy [MEP] Program). The faculty member will also have opportunities to contribute to undergraduate programs. We are especially interested in candidates who have a strong interest in and capacity to collaborate with other researchers, practitioners, and historically underserved communities across multiple levels of educational systems. The faculty member will join a team of highly collaborative colleagues on research projects, courses, and partnerships with school systems, education nonprofits/advocacy organizations, and governmental agencies that address essential gaps in knowledge and practice.

University of Washington (WA) - Assistant Professor, Education (Learning Sciences & Human Development)

THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON SEATTLE, College of Education, seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time position for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Learning Sciences and Human Development with a focus on the design of innovative learning environments, educational equity, and macro-political phenomena. Strong candidates will have active research agendas in learning and education with a focus on improving equity and excellence in learning opportunities and outcomes, addressing topics that may include (but are not limited to) the following: creating expansive learning opportunities for youth and communities (e.g., through tinkering and making experiences); promoting and expanding the boundaries of disciplinary learning (e.g., in history, literacy, or STEM subjects); connecting learning across formal and informal learning environments for youth from non-dominant communities; designing innovative learning environments based on an understanding of social, political, and historical aspects of learning; designing learning experiences to help youth productively coordinate multiple identities (e.g., racial, gender, class, academic, learner). A successful candidate will bring a demonstrated commitment to examining and contributing to equitable educational opportunities and systemic transformation (e.g., attending to issues of race, culture, class, and colonization in knowing and learning; building equity-focused capacity across learning organizations through design-based implementation research; considering cultural and social justice benefits of connecting different knowledge and learning systems). All candidates must have an earned doctorate in learning sciences, educational anthropology, or another relevant field or discipline.

Non Tenure-Track Positions

University of Washington (WA) - Research Assistant Professor, Education (STEM Education)

The University of Washington, College of Education, seeks to fill a Research Assistant Professor position in the area of STEM education and teacher education. We seek someone with a focus on ambitious and equitable teaching practices in K-12 settings, with knowledge of responsive teaching with students from nondominant and historically disenfranchised cultures, and extensive experience conducting qualitative and quantitative educational research on professional learning. This position requires a familiarity with STEM teaching practices, theories of job-embedded professional learning opportunities, university-school partnerships and networked improvement communities. The successful candidate will be a recognized as a researcher who is developing national and international recognition in these fields. The Research Assistant Professor will also support INSPIRE and further develop professional learning opportunities with local K-12 schools. This is a multi-year, full-time, twelve-month non-tenure track position that is contingent upon available funding. There is no state funding associated with this position. The successful candidate will secure external funding for their research.

Specifically, the Research Assistant Professor will be expected to: serve as Principal and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on research projects; write grants and develop, oversee, and execute research activities; write and collaborate on publications; coordinate research efforts across teams and support more junior scholars; support faculty in developing research-practice partnerships through INSPIRE; and publish in peer reviewed journals and other outlets recognized by the field. The Research Assistant Professor should be prepared to support scholars or practitioners of color from historically marginalized groups and provide support for enacting equitable university-community relations.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in learning sciences, science or math education, and/or teacher learning and leadership and will pursue an active, funded program of research and professional development in the areas related to this position. We are especially interested in candidates who have: a deep expertise in equitable research-practice partnerships, networked improvement communities, responsive teaching, and practical measurement; knowledge of partnering with multicultural and multilingual communities, and expertise in pedagogies that incorporate students' funds of knowledge; multi-year experience in developing, managing, and facilitating professional learning for teachers; extensive experience with the Ambitious Science Teaching and the NGSS and Common Core frameworks; multi-year experience as a K-12 math or science teacher; experience in project management with strong organizational skills; and the ability to innovate in the area of instructional and organizational improvements, and connect with university departments, school sites, evaluators, and other collaborators in this regard.

Western Oregon University (OR) - Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Education (Division of Education and Leadership)

The Division of Education and Leadership at Western Oregon University invites qualified applicants for an appointment of Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with probable summer employment. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package.

The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing and dynamic Early Childhood Education (ECE) program dedicated to inclusive practices and social justice. The Early Childhood program offers two bachelor’s degree options; a non-licensure Early Childhood Studies major, and an Early Childhood Teaching Authorization major.  The ECE program is part of the Division of Education and Leadership in the College of Education, nationally recognized for its leadership in evidence-based teacher preparation. 

 

Responsibilities:


  • Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in face-to face, hybrid, and online formats, with opportunities for summer, off-campus, and international teaching
  • Supervise clinical experiences and prepare students to interact effectively with children and families in inclusive Early Childhood settings
  •  Assist undergraduate and graduate students, including academic advising
  • Participate in curriculum review and development including activities related to accreditation. Familiarity with state and national standards (NAEYC, CEC/DEC, InTASC, CAEP)
  • Provide service to the department, University, and profession
  • Collaborate in the growth of the Early Childhood Teacher Education Program

 

Qualifications:


  • Earned Doctorate in Early Childhood Education or closely related field (ABD considered, but the position requires completion of all doctorial requirements by September 17, 2018)
  • Evidence of at least three years successful, early childhood (birth-3rd grade) teaching experience in an educational setting (educational settings may include home visitors, classroom teachers, parent educators, EI/ECSE experience, preschool/Head Start, or K-3rd grade classrooms)

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and inclusive education
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or supervision in undergraduate/graduate early childhood teacher education courses with emphasis on inclusive practices and philosophies
  • Knowledge of NAEYC and CEC/DEC recommended practices and guidelines
  • Knowledge, experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following early childhood specific areas: STEAM, bilingual education, challenging behaviors and/or trauma/resilience
  • Experience teaching university students online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face
  • Experience working with non-traditional student populations (international students, bilingual ELL, first generation, career changers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration in research and service
  • Evidence of emerging scholarship
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional and community service
