Academic Education

You teach several subjects within the educational programme of East-European Languages and Cultures, including:

introductory courses on BA level (history, cultural history, modern culture and literature) with focus on South Eastern Europe, in particular the regions where Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian and Slovene are spoken;
MA level courses with focus on South Eastern Europe, in particular the regions where Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian and Slovene are spoken;
methodological courses on both BA and MA level. 
You actively participate in the development of innovative forms of teaching on BA and MA level.

Academic Research

You will conduct research in the field of South East European cultural studies in the broadest sense of the word (history, cultural studies and/or literature).

You commit yourself to collaborating with scholars within the educational programme and the department.

Academic Services

You participate in and contribute to the organization and functioning of the department of Languages and Cultures, the educational programme of East-European Languages and Cultures, the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and Ghent University as a whole.

Candidates:

  • have highlevel research experience in the domain of South-East European languages and cultures as can be corroborated by publications in high-quality academic journals and peer-reviewed books;
  • are capable of initiating, supervising and acquiring the necessary funding for academic research;
  • possess the necessary didactic skills to help university students develop and achieve academic competences;
  • can demonstrate to be an active member of academic networks within their field of research;
  • have or are willing to acquire an adequate proficiency in Dutch;
  • have a demonstrable, thorough command of at least one, but preferably two South Slavic languages that are taught within the educational programme Eastern European Languages and Cultures (BosnianCroatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Slovene); preference will be given to candidates with a specialisation in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian language and culture;
  • have demonstrable good working knowledge of Russian
  • In addition:
  • International mobility, inter alia by taking part in research programmes at research institutions not linked to the university where the highest degree was obtained, will be considered an asset;
  • having positively evaluated experience in offering and/or organising academic training is recommended;
  • involvement in the professionalization of education will be considered an asset;

You have at least two years of postdoctoral experience on 1 February 2020. This term of two years is determined by the date written on the abovementioned required diploma.

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in Russian literature and culture; the field is open. The Department seeks candidates with broad interdisciplinary interests. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester, including required and elective courses, as well as freshman seminars. We are seeking an energetic colleague who will be committed to building our program in literature and the humanities, someone who is ready to share in advising students as well as to participate fully in the intellectual life of the university.

Candidates may specialize in any area of modern Russian literature and culture, including fiction, documentary prose, poetry, film, theory, the performing arts, and visual culture. Additional expertise in cultures of the former Soviet bloc outside Russia is welcome. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and potential for innovative scholarship are desired.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literatures or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins. Native or near-native Russian and fluency in English are required.

Pusan National University invites applicants for tenure-track positions in following academic fields to begin in March 2020: 

Department of Russian Language and Literature: Russian Linguistics (Except for Russian as a Foreign language)

Candidates are commonly required at least five years of qualified teaching or research experience at the time of application (enrollment duration for both a master’s and a doctoral coursework is accepted-maximum two years to a master’s program and three years to a doctoral program.) Candidates should also have at least one original paper published in SCI-level academic journals or in the NRF (the National Research Foundation of Korea) registered or its registry-candidate journals or in the similar level of International Journals as a lead author for the recent three years. These positions are open to only non-Korean nationals who are native or native-level English speaker (Russian speakers only in case of applicants to the Department of Russian Language and Literature).

Successful candidates will teach nine credits per semester (nine class hours per week), and participate in administrative and extra-curricular activities. There will be research requirements for contract renewal, promotion, performance assessment and research-oriented incentives. Those who cannot communicate in Korean may complete at least 180 hours of Korean language courses provided by the university in three years.

Salary and academic ranks are commensurate with qualified experience. A four-year housing stipend is provided. Successful candidates will join and be covered by the National Health Insurance and the National Pension Plan.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in both English translation and in Russian; courses in translation include those on major Russian writers, survey courses of nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, and Russian civilization; courses taught in Russian include Russian poetry and contemporary short fiction. Twelve month appointment and 2/2 teaching load. Position is renewable for up to three years.

The Department of German and Russian Studies at The College of Wooster invites applications for a one-year visiting position in Russian Studies at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2020. We are looking for a broadly trained generalist who will contribute language and culture courses to our curriculum. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations. 

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses and advise research projects in diverse areas of Russian Studies.
