Academic Education

You teach several subjects within the educational programme of East-European Languages and Cultures, including:

Academic Research

You will conduct research in the field of South East European cultural studies in the broadest sense of the word (history, cultural studies and/or literature).

Academic Services

You participate in and contribute to the organization and functioning of the department of Languages and Cultures, the educational programme of East-European Languages and Cultures, the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and Ghent University as a whole.

Candidates:

• have highlevel research experience in the domain of South-East European languages and cultures as can be corroborated by publications in high-quality academic journals and peer-reviewed books;
• are capable of initiating, supervising and acquiring the necessary funding for academic research;
• possess the necessary didactic skills to help university students develop and achieve academic competences;
• can demonstrate to be an active member of academic networks within their field of research;
• have or are willing to acquire an adequate proficiency in Dutch;

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in Russian literature and culture; the field is open. The Department seeks candidates with broad interdisciplinary interests. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester, including required and elective courses, as well as freshman seminars. Candidates may specialize in any area of modern Russian literature and culture, including fiction, documentary prose, poetry, film, theory, the performing arts, and visual culture. Pusan National University (KOR) - Asst. Prof., Russian Linguistics

Pusan National University invites applicants for tenure-track positions in following academic fields to begin in March 2020: 

Department of Russian Language and Literature: Russian Linguistics (Except for Russian as a Foreign language)

Candidates are commonly required at least five years of qualified teaching or research experience at the time of application (enrollment duration for both a master’s and a doctoral coursework is accepted-maximum two years to a master’s program and three years to a doctoral program.) Candidates should also have at least one original paper published in SCI-level academic journals or in the NRF (the National Research Foundation of Korea) registered or its registry-candidate journals or in the similar level of International Journals as a lead author for the recent three years. These positions are open to only non-Korean nationals who are native or native-level English speaker (Russian speakers only in case of applicants to the Department of Russian Language and Literature).

Successful candidates will teach nine credits per semester (nine class hours per week), and participate in administrative and extra-curricular activities. There will be research requirements for contract renewal, promotion, performance assessment and research-oriented incentives. Those who cannot communicate in Korean may complete at least 180 hours of Korean language courses provided by the university in three years.

Salary and academic ranks are commensurate with qualified experience. A four-year housing stipend is provided. Successful candidates will join and be covered by the National Health Insurance and the National Pension Plan.

The George Mason University, Department of Modern and Classical Languages, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teacher-Scholar of Russian Literature and Culture, beginning Fall 2020. Candidates will have an active research and publication agenda focused on one or more of the following areas: Post-Soviet Russian literature, nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, Russian and (Post-) Soviet film, and cultural studies.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in both English translation and in Russian; courses in translation include those on major Russian writers, survey courses of nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, and Russian civilization; courses taught in Russian include Russian poetry and contemporary short fiction. Twelve month appointment and 2/2 teaching load. Position is renewable for up to three years.

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, university-level teaching experience, and native or near-native fluency in Russian.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

The Department of German and Russian Studies at The College of Wooster invites applications for a one-year visiting position in Russian Studies at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2020. The position comes with full benefits. We are looking for a broadly trained generalist who will contribute language and culture courses to our curriculum. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations. 

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses and advise research projects in diverse areas of Russian Studies. They will teach the equivalent of 4.5 courses, including introductory and intermediate courses in the Russian Language; a survey course in Russian film or literature, taught in English; and credited supervision of independent thesis projects as part of the College’s Independent Study program. Area of specialization is open. Successful candidates will be expected to participate fully in our weekly Russian events outside the classroom.
