University of Sydney (AUS:NSW) - Lecturer in Indonesian Studies (Asst. Prof. Equivalent)[]

Applications are invited for a full-time lectureship in the Department of Indonesian Studies in the School of Languages and Cultures. The Indonesian Studies department offers an area studies major, incorporating language acquisition for learners who enter the program with less than near-native facility and rigorous disciplinary content for native and non-native speakers. While ensuring that language acquisition takes precedence in the lower levels, students are expected to grapple with important questions about the history, culture, geography, economy, anthropology and politics of this vast and complex nation from the ab initio level onwards.
This is facilitated at the lower levels through a mixed Indonesian and English language lecture component and at the upper levels through our flagship Indonesian language guest lecture program, in which students from levels 3 and 4 come together ten times per semester to attend a lecture on a topic related to their studies delivered in Indonesian by an outside expert.
The successful candidate will make a key contribution to the teaching of Indonesian Studies at all levels. In collaboration with other staff, they will also be involved in curriculum development and the promotion of Indonesian Studies across the University and in the broader community.
Some teaching in the Asian Studies program (in English) and Honours and Postgraduate supervision may be required. The successful candidate will be expected to make high-quality contribution to the research profile of the department.
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Lecturer in Indonesian Studies with: *a PhD (completed or near completion) in Indonesian Studies or relevant discipline *native or near-native fluency in Indonesian and English *deep and broad experience in the teaching and learning of Indonesian at tertiary level (including beginner, intermediate and advanced units), as evidenced by independent teaching as well as participation in team teaching within an established program. *demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives, including curriculum development *a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise that complements the department’s research strengths *demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research program including external research grant applications *excellent problem-solving, organisational ability, and interpersonal skills *ability to supervise Honours and Postgraduates and coordinate departmental research activities *ability to contribute to the teaching of Indonesia-focused units in the Asian Studies Program *experience in promoting Indonesian Studies in the broader community through outreach activities
