Bates College (Assistant Professor early modern literature and culture) - CAMPUS INTERVIEW STAGE 

The Bates College Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in early modern literature and culture, including history of the book. Candidates with interests in critical race studies, gender and sexuality studies, and studies of globalization and transnationalism, are especially encouraged to apply. Position We invite applications for a tenure-track position in Medieval literature with a secondary teaching expertise in Early Modern literature. Scholars with comparative or transnational approaches, or theoretical interests in race, gender, sexuality, or disability studies are especially encouraged to apply. The appointee will be expected to teach a range of courses in all areas of the English and Comparative Literature majors, at the upper-division and graduate (M.A.) levels, as well as lower-division, introductory, and general education courses. Of particular importance will be the ability to teach Chaucer, Shakespeare, and British literature survey courses, along with advanced studies in medieval literature in English and transnational perspectives. Faculty generally teach 3 classes per semester. A reduced teaching load is provided for the first two years. Evidence of an active research program and high-quality teaching is required.

CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The person in this position will also be responsible for producing scholarship / creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in early modern literature and culture, to begin in the fall 2020 semester. The ideal candidate will engage with issues such as race, faith, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality, inclusive of English and global contexts. We are interested in hearing of the potential to contribute across academic departments and interdisciplinary programs at Clark, such as the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies (CGRAS), as appropriate to the candidate’s specialization. Active participation is encouraged in Early Modernists Unite (EMU), a faculty collaborative at Clark dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary connections in research and teaching and to facilitating awareness of the early roots of persistent cultural and political structures at work in the contemporary world. • This is quite obviously a fake search. I wouldn't give too much to wondering about this job if I were you.

• I don't know if it's fake, but it certainly appears that there is likely a preferred internal candidate.

We seek a teacher-scholar who is a British Literature generalist committed to enhancing our culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion while complementing existing faculty strengths. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in English (British), European, and Post-Colonial literatures along with some first-year composition. Additional teaching responsibilities in the major or graduate program will vary based on area(s) of expertise. The English Department at Rowan University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position specializing in global medieval literatures, with secondary teaching strengths in early modern British literature. We welcome specialists with interdisciplinary research and teaching interests in any area of global medieval studies, including multicultural and transnational studies, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, science and medicine, and/or environmental studies. Your Role

The Assistant Professor’s teaching obligations are in the Bachelor en Cultures Européennes – English Studies. S/he will complement and diversify the current course offer in the field of Literary Studies. S/he will contribute to the programme’s advisory system (“Tutorat”).

S/he will be required to teach courses at all levels of the Bachelor programme (foundational, core, and elective). S/he will be required to take on tutoring, advising and supervision responsibilities within the context of a large cohort in the Bachelor programme; and will be actively involved in the conceptualisation and development of a drama track within the BCE: English Studies. The Assistant Professor will design and implement a series of lectures within the European Cultures minor of the programme.

Moreover, the Assistant Professor will contribute to the Doctoral School and will be expected to attract and supervise PhD candidates. In the long term, s/he will contribute to the potential development of the English track of the Master in Secondary Education.

An excellent opportunity for a Lecturer in Seventeenth Century Literature from 1 January 2020 to 13 December 2020.

The successful candidate will cover Professor Sue Wiseman during her British Academy/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship. You will be expected to contribute to teaching and convening across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English and the humanities. Duties will include contributions to BA and MA specialist teaching on Renaissance and Seventeenth Century writing and culture such as The Literature of Renaissance London (MA option) and broader survey modules such as the BA English level module Tragedy and other thematic and period-based modules in the Liberal Arts. You will also act as personal tutor (including for our first-year skills course Doing English), supervise Final Year Projects and MA Dissertation students, and take on administrative duties.

The successful candidate will likely have a PhD in a relevant subject area, or be close to completion, with teaching experience at HE level. Teaching experience at undergraduate degree level is essential. Teaching experience at postgraduate degree level and administrative experience are desirable. All of our teaching is research-led. Expertise in Seventeenth Century Literature including at least one high quality publication are essential. An interest in women’s writing and/or material culture may be an advantage. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the development of innovative approaches to teaching, as well as undertaking appropriate administrative duties.

Remuneration

The starting salary will be £38,594 per annum - Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale.

The Department of English wishes to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Early Modern English Literature (Academic Education Pathway) for a period of 10 months from September 1 2019. This is a temporary post to cover maternity leave in the department. A UK Lecturer position is approximately equivalent to an Assistant Professor in the US system.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach on a range of undergraduate modules. These are likely to include the first-year compulsory modules Reading Poetry and Early Modern Literary Cultures and second-year options including Comedy and Identity, Life of the Sonnet and Poetry of Revolution. The post-holder will be involved in personal tutoring and some academic administration and will also be expected to supervise undergraduate dissertations.  Depending on experience, the post-holder may also be involved in informal advising of research students. They will play a full part in the intellectual life of the Department, including departmental sessions on research, professional development and pastoral care.

This post will be offered on a 10 month fixed term contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent. The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £37,412 to £44,015 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.
