Berea College's English Department announces a tenure-track position with a start date in August 2018. English faculty offer a wide range of courses in literature (both in English and in translation) and in writing, including creative writing and studies in rhetoric and composition. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in American Literature or American Studies at the time of appointment and will demonstrate excellence in teaching American literature, with primary expertise in teaching nineteenth-century American literature, women in literature, and writing. Applicants who also have a specialty in composition pedagogy are desired.
Teaching responsibilities include a 3/3 load, including courses in area of specialization as well as the College's General Education Program. Other responsibilities include continuing professional and scholarly growth, advising, and providing service to the Department and College. UMass Dartmouth is on the south coast of Massachusetts, less than an hour's drive from Boston, Providence, and Cape Cod. The university's strategic plan positions us as a research university while continuing to provide excellent undergraduate and graduate education. Requirements: Candidates will demonstrate experience teaching and an active research agenda in late 19th and early 20th century American literature. The Department of English at Wesleyan University seeks a scholar-teacher of Text, Materiality, and Technology, specializing in any period of British, American or Anglophone literature from the late seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries, for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2018. We seek a scholar whose work conceives of texts as material artifacts, and who thinks in fresh ways about how old formats and new technics might illuminate each other. Successful applicants will offer broadly-conceived courses in the field, courses more focused on their areas of expertise, and the English Department’s gateway, “Ways of Reading.” Wesleyan faculty have a strong commitment to both undergraduate teaching and scholarship. Candidates for this position should be actively engaged in scholarly research and writing and prepared to teach four literature courses per year (two per semester) to undergraduates.
The teaching load is 2/2. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in English or related field within one year of hire.

Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English to begin September 1, 2018.
Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in Early American Literature (or a related field), but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. The successful candidate will have prior experience in teaching American Literature courses at the undergraduate level and will have secondary or dual interest in environmental literature and studies. Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: We prefer candidates who have experience teaching general education courses, as well as teaching experience at introductory and advanced levels. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
Major/Essential Functions: The teaching assignment will be five courses (5/7 appointment), two courses per semester and a one-month January Term experiential course determined by candidate and appropriate to their expertise. Primary teaching responsibilities will include American Literature I (ENG-121), American Novel (ENG-273), American Pastoralism (ENG-228), and American Renaissance (ENG-336), and contributions to general education.
