Preliminary interview scheduled (please specify: phone, Skype, etc.): Not me, but a colleague will be interviewing for this position (originally said at MLA, I probably misremember the conversation. Sorry for any confusion)

  • I interviewed with the committee on the phone.
  • Yeah, they are doing phone interviews, I have one. Doubt they would also be going to MLA for interviewing [posted 12/7]
  • Anyone else not receive a rejection or an invitation to interview? (x4; I'm in the same boat and was wondering the same thing. Perhaps we're in a separate, secondary pool of applicants?)  (yes, I am in this weird boat with you too!);
  • 12/15: An email rejection was in my in-box this morning.
  • Q for 12/15: Did you have a phone interview prior to receiving the email rejection? A: No phone interview; just a late rejection.
  • Any updates on this position post MLA?
  • In the interview they told me visits would not be early in the winter semester, but I believe they mentioned that they would be letting me know about those visits prior to MLA so my guess is that they have sorted this out.
  • A: I was told basically the same thing. I went to MLA came back and still dead silence here.

NOTES:

  • Also posted at Other Ethnic American 2016
  • Hi all - I just tried to apply for this job, but received an auto-generated email telling me that I "do not meet the minimum requirements for this position." I have a specialization in early American literature and at least a year of college teaching experience, so I'm guessing this response was triggered by the fact that I listed myself as ABD in the drop-down menu. (I'll receive my PhD in spring 2016.) Has anyone else encountered this issue? Does A&M have a known policy against considering ABD candidates? And does anyone know whom in the San Antonio English department I might email to ask about this issue? I just want to confirm that this is a deliberate decision on their part and not some kind of glitch in the application system.
  • Same. I contacted HR. HR said that they are only accepting people with PhD in hand. I do not know if I believed HR because the job ad does not say anything about this. But I did not feel like pursuing any further.
  • Ok, thanks. Seems like the kind of thing they should definitely put in the job ad, just so folks like us don't waste our time. But at least future Wiki users will be aware ...
  • Note from search committee: automatic rejection of ABD candidates was caused by miscommunication across offices, and has since been changed. The system is now accepting ABD candidates, and all submitted ABD applications have been reinstated.
  • Why have these job ads been re-posted several times on HighEdJobs.com? Were initial candidates ruled out?
  • FYI: If you search the "job listings" on their official employment page, the Asst. Professor jobs are no longer listed. My guess is that the search is either filled and the winner--I mean candidate-- doesn't use wiki or the positions have simply been cancelled.
  • I think FYI-er is right. I got a request for an initial interview back in Janurary, and then heard absolutely nothing (even now 5/27). Expected a rejetion but either the hire has been made or the search was shut down.
