ENGLISH - Full-time, academic year, tenure track Assistant Professor of English, College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, to begin September 15, 2016. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Specialization in early through revolutionary American literature required, with ability to teach Native American/Indigenous literature and/or 17th century English literature highly desired. Cal Poly is committed to the teacher/scholar model. In the English Department the typical teaching assignment is 12 units per quarter with correspondingly reasonable service and research expectations. A significant reduction in course load will occur in the first one to two years to help establish an active program of research and professional development. All tenured and tenure-track faculty teach courses in their areas of specialization at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Catawba College, a private, residential college in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in the English Department.

A PhD in pre-20th-century American Literature to teach survey and topics courses in both pre-20th-century American literature and African-American literature. A strong background in composition pedagogy is required; an interest in developing one or more courses in multi-ethnic American or transnational literatures is highly desirable. Knowledge of the literature of the American South is also welcome. Course-load is four courses each semester, with two composition sections per semester. The Division of Humanities at New College of Florida invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of English for academic year 2016–17, to replace a colleague serving in administration. Possibility of extension. New College is a small, highly selective, liberal arts college and the designated honors college of the Florida public state university system, located on Sarasota Bay.

Teaching load is 2/2 plus supervision of tutorials and direction of January-term Independent Study Projects. Expertise in poetry is essential. A focus on Romantic poetry or nineteenth-century American poetry is highly desirable. We welcome all applications, particularly those demonstrating scholarly and teaching interest in digital humanities, transatlantic literature and culture, or literature of the environment. Our colleague will be expected to teach at least two courses focused on poetry, one of which should be an introduction to poetry emphasizing formal literary analysis and one more advanced in area of specialization. New College encourages visiting faculty to develop courses that build on their own scholarly expertise and serve the larger goals of the English program. English at New College seeks to introduce students to literature of the anglophone world; we expect students majoring in English to demonstrate strong skills in textual analysis, historical approaches, cross-cultural work, and a basic knowledge of applied critical methods and theories. All students at New College produce a senior project, most often a written thesis under close faculty supervision.

The Department of English at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching the following on-campus courses: ENGL 360: Modern Literature (Fall/Winter), ENGL 446: New York City and the Gilded Age (Winter), and one of; ENGL 471 African American Literature (Fall), ENGL 487 Science Fictional Worlds (Fall), or ENGL 491 Autobiography and Life Writing (Fall). ENGL 360 is a third-year small lecture course with an expected enrolment of 60 students. ENGL 446, 471, 487 and 491 are fourth-year seminar courses with expected enrolments of 25 to 30 students. We are seeking a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of English to teach courses in American literature before 1900. Renewable up to three years, depending on performance and university needs. Ability to contribute expertise and courses to either our Women’s and Gender Studies program or our US Cultural Studies program (or both) is desirable. Transatlantic/hemispheric approaches and interest in global literatures welcome. Teaching load normally 3-1-3 (3 courses in each regular semester and 1 during a shortened January term).
