Seeking candidates with a record of artistic achievement who are able to contextualize their practice within the larger discourses of dance history, cultural studies, or aesthetic or critical theory. Teaching load is two course credits each semester, which will include modern dance technique, choreography/composition, improvisation, and dance as art-making activity (the latter for students with or without formal dance training), as well as producing and choreographing for departmental dance concerts. Those with additional expertise in one or more of the following: ballet technique, dance history, screendance, or dance and digital technology are especially encouraged to apply. Training and expertise to teach one other course in the Department of Dance.
DUTIES: Teach at least four of the following undergraduate and graduate courses as appropriate to training and expertise: Anatomy for the Dancer, Anatomy in Clay Laboratory, Pilates, Placement for the Dancer, and Scientific Principles as related to teaching dance technique. May be assigned to teach other Department courses appropriate to training and expertise. Serve as the dance science coordinator for research, mentoring, and course access for students in the option in Dance Science. Serve as a liaison between related departments to promote the option in Dance Science that is currently part of the curriculum; produce scholarly activity and publish in the field of dance science; serve as the Pilates Center coordinator; Participate in service to the department, college, and university committees.

Cornell University’s Department of Performing and Media Arts seeks an assistant professor, with expertise either in the area of media/film production or in the area of dance/choreography, for a tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2016. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work has a global focus or reach. Please note that the candidate must have either an MFA or Ph.D. officially awarded no later than July 1, 2016. The candidate needs to demonstrate excellence in only one of our target areas, media/film production or dance/choreography, not both.
We are looking for a dynamic and innovative artist or artist-scholar with a wide range of interests. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate students in our major and minor in Performing and Media Arts, which combines theory and practice in film, dance, theatre, performance, installation, devised work, and transmedia, increasingly in unusual and experimental ways. Courses – which would uphold and challenge training traditions in a range of media/film production or dance techniques, respectively – would be determined by departmental needs and the candidate’s particular area(s) of expertise; the successful candidate will teach two courses each semester, participate in the department’s production work as either a filmmaker and instructor of filmmaking or as a choreographer, and pursue a professional career beyond Cornell. We are interested in recruiting candidates who have demonstrated an ongoing, successful engagement with the highest standards of scholarship or creative activity, consistent with the expectations for excellence in a Research I university. The Department of Performing Arts at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Modern Dance at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall semester of 2016. A Ph.D. in dance, performance studies, or a closely related field and at least three years of experience as a dancer/choreographer required at the time of appointment. Applicants should have an active focus on research and publication. A global perspective on dance, interests in interdisciplinary approaches to dance study (dance sociology, performance studies, gender, etc.) and in Contemporary Dance are also welcome. The ideal candidate will be a performing artist with a national or international reputation, a demonstrated capacity for creative work, the potential for continuing to make professional work of a high order and for expanding the Department's artistic and teaching profile. Experience in college teaching is required. Position / Qualifications: The Duke University Program in Dance seeks an outstanding dance researcher and artist practitioner who will contribute significantly to the new MFA in Dance: Live Art and Embodied Practice in teaching, research, and the advising of MFA thesis projects. We welcome an individual who will both expand and extend the areas of expertise of the current faculty in terms of research, international engagement, and teaching across degree programs (MFA and BA). The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer(s) to teach courses in dance and movement studies for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. Course(s) will include but may not be limited to:
Afro-Latin Dance Ensemble
Social Dance (combined lecture and studio)
Topics in Dance (topic in be determined in consultation with the successful applicant)
In addition to teaching these courses, the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant. The position will include a single annual course release in exchange for development and maintenance of dance spaces and curriculum.
Masters and/or PhD and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. The University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a Lecturer in Dance to serve as Co-Director of the Creative Arts Living Learning Program (opening Fall 2016) and teach courses in our dynamic Dance Program (Introduction to Dance, courses in Dance Technique, and/or area of specialization). There is potential for the successful candidate to serve as a choreographer for our departmental season and/or Annual Dance Concert.
As Co-director of the new Creative Arts Living Learning Program, to be located in new a state-of-the art teaching facility, the successful candidate will take a leadership role in student recruitment, external and curricular programming, outreach and retention, faculty engagement, and supervision of student peer mentors, in collaboration with the College of Arts & Sciences. The Creative Arts Living Learning Program is designed for students with a strong interest in the creative or performing arts—from dance, music, and theatre to art studio, creative writing, and arts administration. The residence hall will house solo and ensemble music practice rooms, a dance/performance studio with projection capabilities, an art education studio, and a writing studio for a truly immersive living-learning program.
The candidate will advise students and help to strategize growth in the curriculum. The Dance Program is active in ACDA, and the faculty maintain an active professional profile. The successful candidate is expected to achieve excellence in the classroom, be cognizant of current teaching practices, methodologies and research in the field, and play an active role in assessment and retention.

Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows in Dance Studies - 2016-2017[]

A consortium of three research universities–Brown, Northwestern, and Stanford–seeks to appoint Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows in Dance Studies for the academic year 2016-17. Fellows will be associated with humanities centers and with departments of theatre and dance on each campus and will teach two undergraduate courses. International applicants are welcome, as are applicants from Ph.D.s in all fields in the humanities and humanistic social sciences that border dance studies.
The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. no later than 15 July 2015 and no earlier than 15 July 2012. Campus placement will be determined by the Search Committee.
