Description The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications to join our world-leading and problem-focused social science faculty as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental Social Science (ESS). The ESS program lays the theoretical and methodological foundations for training next-generation scholars in trans-disciplinary processes and dynamics that underlie the key human-environmental challenges defining this century. ASU and SHESC are committed to building an intellectually, culturally, and ethnically diverse faculty that supports our diverse student body and advances the goals embodied in ASU’s Charter and Design Aspirations.
We seek applicants with a demonstrated capacity for advancing innovative, important scholarship on human-environment or human-infrastructure relationships, such as: place making or attachment, environmental psychology, political ecology, environmental justice, power relations/dynamics, social movements and collective action, institutions, multi-level or earth system governance, knowledge co-production, or decision-making under conditions of social-ecological uncertainty and complexity. Anticipated start date is August 2020.
Specific job duties include advancing collaborative, trans-disciplinary research in environmental social science, publishing research findings in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets, seeking external research funding, teaching/training/mentoring diverse undergraduate and graduate students, providing service to the university and academy, and outreach to diverse communities (such as providing expert advice and the public communication of science).
Qualifications Minimum qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Environmental Social Science, Geography, Planning, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Psychology, or other directly relevant social science field at the time of application.
- A record of empirical research and peer-reviewed publications supported by robust social science methods such as: experimental, qualitative, observational, social network, statistical, computational social science, spatial analysis, community-based, or decolonizing methodologies.
- A demonstrated record of collaborative interdisciplinary research such as: co-authorship on publications or conference papers, training experiences as a graduate research assistant, post-doctoral fellow, or collaborator on interdisciplinary projects, or leading or collaborating on applications for external funding with an interdisciplinary team.
- Capacity to teach courses and mentor students in Environmental Social Science and across disciplines related to other undergraduate and graduate programs offered in the School, such as Global Health, Applied Mathematics, and Anthropology.
Desired qualifications:
- Demonstrated capacity for obtaining competitive external research funding.
- Classroom and online teaching experience.
- Demonstrated success in serving the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities and publics.
- Evidence of leveraging place and/or local/global networks and collaborations through socially embedded, trans-disciplinary scholarship and/or training.

The Department of Anthropology at Bowdoin College invites applications for two tenure-track positions in cultural anthropology to begin July 1, 2020. We intend to hire at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional senior candidates will also be considered.

Environmental Justice and Social Inequality
We seek a cultural anthropologist whose research on the environment forefronts issues of inequality and justice in historically marginalized communities. Topical specializations might include: chemical exposures and toxicity; climate crises and justice; disaster and creative adaptations; environmental governance and ethics; environmental racism and slow violence; food (in)security; land dispossession and reclamation; resource extraction, social resistance, and sovereignty.
Critical Studies of Health
We seek a cultural anthropologist whose research forefronts issues of health and well-being at the intersection of local/global systems of power. Topical specializations might include: addiction and violence; bio-medical practice and ethics; (dis)ability and social movements; displacement, migration, and health insecurities; drug development and pharmaceuticals; traditional medical knowledge and indigenous practices; genomics and bioinformatics; humanitarian, medical, and/or techno-scientific governance; materiality of scientific objects; mental health and psychic life; trauma, survival, and recovery of persons and communities.
The ideal candidate is committed to excellence in research and teaching and has developed geographical and topical specializations that complement or extend those currently covered in the Department. We also seek colleagues who will collaborate with us as we build a program that integrates the subdisciplines of cultural anthropology and anthropological archaeology.

As part of a major new hiring initiative, the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs and the Department of Anthropology at Brown University invite applications for a faculty position in the field of international security to begin July 2020. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses, though courses associated with this position will typically be taught at the Hayward campus or online. In addition to teaching, all faculty participate in advising and committee work, and maintain a record of scholarly publications and of meaningful community engagement. The Department of Women’s Studies at California State University, Sacramento is inviting applications for a full-time (academic year), tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Latinx Feminisms starting Fall 2020. We seek a colleague who can teach introductory, breadth and advanced courses in Women’s and Gender Studies, and can offer new courses in one or more of the following areas within Latinx Feminisms: immigration, citizenship, border studies, public policy, identity politics, race & gender politics, indigenous studies, environmental justice, gender-based violence, and transnational feminism. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Women’s & Gender Studies with specialization in Latinx Feminisms. Applications are invited from publicly engaged socio-cultural anthropologists doing ethnographically grounded and theoretically significant research in race and racialization. We seek a dynamic and creative colleague to contribute to the development of this field of study in our program. Description The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor whose research explores the practices, institutions, and transformative effects of science and technology in shaping our world. We are especially interested in scholars who could complement our department’s strengths in the thematic areas of health, human environmental interactions, and social justice. Candidates must employ ethnographic research methods, and they must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related social science by the time of appointment, a proven record of excellent publication in keeping with professional level, and potential for securing external research funding. Specialty interests may include, but are not limited to, health technologies and bio-medical practice; the intersection of science, technology, and environmental problems; risk, large technical systems, and sociotechnical innovation or catastrophe; and the politics of scientific knowledge production and technological development.
Applicants should have demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
SDSU anthropology faculty and students address real-world problems through theoretically driven yet practical applications of anthropology, promoting an understanding of human diversity and commonality across the globe and through time. The department currently has 150 undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and 22 graduate students working on their Masters of Arts (M.A.) degree in Anthropology. Three primary factors guide the department’s program offerings: 1) a dedication to a four-field approach, 2) an emphasis on experiential learning through hands-on field, laboratory, and internship opportunities, and 3) a focus on Applied Anthropology. Our growing anthropology program is searching for an engaging and energetic teacher who can offer introductory and advanced courses for both majors and non-majors. The Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Global and Community Health scholar with expertise in health and health data, including data-analysis and/or geo-visualization as they relate to societal injustices embodied in ill-health. The selected candidate will hold a professorial appointment in one of the departments in UCSC’s Division of Social Sciences (see below), and also contribute towards the Global Community Health (GCH) program.
The selected candidate will be an outstanding researcher on issues such as big data for analyzing health inequalities, translational genomics care and data-sharing for underserved communities, measuring and visualizing constraints on health systems, impact evaluation for health care interventions and policy making, and the delivery of primary health care across global, national, and subnational/local scales. The selected candidate will also possess very strong collaborative and organizational skills based on experiences working with diverse communities through partnerships on issues of health service access and disparities.

We are searching for a director to provide vision for a growing program. The successful candidate will have a strong background and demonstrated excellence in professional and/or technical communication research and pedagogy. Desirable areas of expertise include the existing departmental strengths in medical and biomedical writing, technical writing and games, and cross-cultural communication. The Davidson College Department of Anthropology seeks applications for a two-year visiting position in applied cultural or medical anthropology. The geographic area is open, although candidates with a focus on East Asia or Asian American communities are especially encouraged to apply. The visiting faculty member’s courses and research should complement existing departmental specializations in cultural and biological anthropology and anthropological archaeology, and contribute to our four-field approach to the discipline. Areas of specialization of particular interest are foodways, urbanization, social justice and inequity, political ecologies of health, environmental justice and/or reproductive health. Successful candidates should have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduates and ongoing research and publication activity that could potentially incorporate undergraduate participation. Preference will be given to scholar-teachers with experience in applied anthropology or medical anthropology. The current teaching load is five courses per year.
