The Underwood International College of Yonsei University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in pre-1800 European literature at the international campus in Songdo, Incheon, located in the greater Seoul metropolitan region. We welcome applications from scholars specializing in any European national literary tradition and genre. The starting date is September 1, 2018. Applicants should have received their Ph.D. by August 1, 2017 and have at least one subsequent year of postdoctoral research/teaching experience. The Program in Comparative Literature and Translation Studies invites applications for the position of Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies to begin July 2018. The English Department of Baruch College, CUNY, seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Translation and Interpreting Studies, with particular emphasis on connections and intersections with multilingualism.

The candidate should have a strong interest in crossing the borders between languages, cultures, and national literatures, and should demonstrate an understanding of the critical, practical, and theoretical issues concerning translation, and how these intersect with globalization, multiculturalism, and interdisciplinarity. Teaching opportunities also include courses in Great Works of Literature (our multicultural literature requirement) and in First Year Writing. Candidate should be able to contribute to collaborative initiatives and cross-departmental connections involving a possible Translation Studies minor, the Global Studies program, the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature, and the Department of Communication Studies.

The Position: We seek a faculty member working on Hemispheric American literature (20th/21st C. preferable), with demonstrated interest in Chicano/a or Latino/a literature. The successful candidate will teach courses in the English B.A. and M.A. programs, and contribute to the educational mission of the CSU system and Cal Poly Pomona as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to teach courses in Hemispheric American literature. Ability to teach courses in Chicano/a and Latino/a American literature. Emerson College (MA) - TT Assistant Professor in Comparative Literary Foundations & Comedic Literature[]

The Department of Writing, Literature & Publishing and the Interdepartmental BFA Program in Comedic Arts at Emerson College invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in literature and comedic arts. The appointment begins August 24, 2018. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate core courses in literary foundations and the Evolution of Comedy and will develop upper-level courses serving students in comedic arts and literature. In addition to teaching five courses a year, this position will require advising and mentoring students in the Comedic Arts major and, beginning in the second year, active participation on the Comedic Arts faculty steering committee. The Department seeks candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community, working with students both inside and outside of the classroom in addition to research, teaching, and service.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in literature, dramatic literature, or a related field with preference given to a specialization in foundational literary and dramatic texts. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda and teaching experience focusing on the use and function of satire, comedy, humor, and/or the carnivalesque in literary and cultural texts. Experience teaching at the college level and evidence of scholarly activity is required. A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a residential college environment is essential.

The English and Communication Studies Department seeks a specialist in world literature with a regional specialization including, but not limited to, African, Caribbean, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Oceanic, or South/South East Asian literary traditions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute leadership and vision to the department's literature program, to provide intellectual and pedagogical innovation for world literature courses, to serve as a mentor to current and new literature faculty, and to develop interdisciplinary college-wide programming in global and area studies. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other Liberal Arts departments and have a commitment to working with culturally, linguistically, and academically diverse students in an institution with strong emphasis on globalism and experiential learning.

At hire, the successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses in the English and Communication Studies Department, including introductory literature and composition, and to develop new curriculum in the candidate's area of specialization. Additionally, the candidate will engage in academic service and conduct research in their area of expertise.

Globalism: Possess expertise in helping students discover how specific works of literature can challenge or solidify accepted norms and uncover moments of cultural evolution and revolution. Demonstrate ability to help students delve into human experience by examining key works of literature from diverse historical, aesthetic, and cultural perspectives while also encouraging them to challenge essentializing tendencies and debates that might circulate and solidify around the reception of these works. Demonstrate ability to create a dynamic classroom where students can effectively communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries and balance differing worldviews based upon a deep knowledge and awareness of other people, countries, cultures, and beliefs through the study of literature. Strengthen curricular offerings in literature as well as introduce students to new canons from global literary traditions based upon the candidate's areas of expertise.

Instructional Design: Demonstrate ability to adapt course materials to adjust to new innovations within and outside of the discipline. Demonstrate instructional variety and flexibility to accommodate students of different learning styles, abilities, demographics, or diversity. Demonstrate experience in creating curriculum and classroom environments that will reinforce and further develop advanced skills in critical reading, thinking, presenting, and writing.

Learning Enrichment: Demonstrate innovative and creative pedagogical approaches into the classroom and exhibit a love of learning that is communicated effectively to students. Possess a passion for expanding students' horizons, curiosities and imagination through literary exemplars and wide-ranging curricular innovations that fall outside the Western literary tradition. Demonstrate experience in guiding students to hone lateral thinking skills and to engage in critical analysis as they dissect a work's themes, authorial and stylistic choices, historical context and cultural significance through careful literary analysis. Demonstrate the vision to deliver and advance the mission of the English and Communication Studies Department and the School of Liberal Arts: to develop reflective, critical and engaged citizens of the world.

Professionalism: Maintain active participation in professional practices and scholarship, and a willingness to mentor faculty both within the School of Liberal Arts and across the College. Demonstrate expertise in current critical, theoretical, and pedagogical trends and practices in the field. Candidates will have a PhD in English, Literature, or Comparative Literature with a regional specialization including, but not limited to African, Caribbean, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Oceanic, or South/South East Asian literary traditions by the date of appointment (August 20, 2018). Candidates should also exhibit a record of academic research and publication, professional activities, successful college-level teaching, and familiarity with both online and hybrid learning.

Applicants with research and teaching expertise in a broad range of non-Western literary traditions with a comparative, transnational, interdisciplinary, and/or Postcolonial studies approach, in addition to literary subfields that might include classics, critical theory, diasporic studies, ecocriticism, gender and sexuality studies, and theatre and performance studies. Experience with interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to teaching literature and the digital humanities is especially welcome.

The Department of Comparative Literature seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in comparative literature, with expertise in modern Asian, African, and/or Middle Eastern literatures. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester and including both required and elective courses. We are looking for a candidate with strong research and teaching interests in the area of critical theory, with a focus on questions of comparativity, including the cultural dynamics of translation and representation. We require a candidate with a fluent command of critical theory in a wide range of historical periods, literatures, media, and disciplines. The successful candidate will have a significant background in literary theory and literatures from non-English language traditions, including non-Western cultures.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature (strongly preferred) or a closely related discipline with demonstrated specialization in comparative literature at the time of appointment. They must have demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees, teaching evaluations, statement of teaching philosophy, and dossier and/or syllabi submitted as part of the application. The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses from the introductory to the advanced levels, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship for scholars in the field of Renaissance and Early Modern Comparative Literature, with a special interest in candidates with research interests in Renaissance and transnational Early Modern Drama. The fellowship will be for one year with the possibility for renewal for a second or third year.
