NOTES:

This situation smells like an inside candidate...and there's a very good match for the announcement in their dept already. SC might be going through the motions as per legal terms while waiting it out to see if s/he gets hired at a top school... (1/27)

No news? Do we even know if MLA interviews happened for this position? (1/10)

MLA JIL says MLA interviews were scheduled.

1/17/2012: Ok, I guess that's that then, for me...

No one has heard anything about MLA interviews (12/28)?

I feel like if they don't call or email by today; it is very unlikely that they will call next week because that will be the week of the MLA. If they don't call after Monday, then they are probably behind...For others who have interviews and presentations at MLA, best of luck! :)

Of course, the other possibility is that they've offered interviews but the people who have gotten them aren't Wiki users / haven't bothered updating. It does happen. And another possiblity is that they've simply decided to hold off on MLA interviews and do a skype or a phone interview instead - something that's becoming more and more common these days (12/30). Then again, maybe a few lucky people will be getting phone calls early next week.

Haven't heard about an interview as of today (12/30). I have heard stories of people getting calls the day before the conference but I agree it is a long shot now that we are entering the week of the MLA. Good luck everyone.

I didn't receive an acknowledgment. Were they sent via surface mail or email? Thanks!

Me neither; I think because they are trying to push through the deadline of inviting candidates to MLA, they probably don't have time to acknowledge all applications at this point. My guess is lucky candidates will be invited via phone or email in the next few days, while the rest will be "acknoweldged" through rejections...

Thank you for your response! Let's hope we hear soon. I am about ready for the MLA anticipation to be over...Good luck!

acknowledgment sent via email (furthermore, it said that I would be receiving a confidential data sheet which I received on 12/20- we were encouraged to fill it in immediately)

I received acknowledgment 12/8 and link to the online demographic data collection 12/20.

NOTES:

Literary theory prior to the 20th century? Is that a thing? Are they talking about Aristotle?

Doesn't this typically mean Enlightenment and Romanticism?

But there is no literary theory per se prior to the twentieth century.

Seriously, guys? Look up scholars Walter Haug, A.J. Minnis, or Rita Copeland. There was indeed literary theory long prior to the twentieth century, just as there was philosophy before Kant. And there are indeed people who work on it.

updates? Is the position filled?

NOTES:

They just ran this search in the spring. Any idea why they're re-listing it? Portsmouth, OH doesn't exactly look like the most inviting place to live, but if they filled the position last spring, you'd think they'd be able to keep someone for more than a semester.

NOTES:

on the "status" section for academicjobsonline.org, does everyone have the following text accompanying their application: "incomplete(missing 1+ writing samples)" I ask because I never received a request for a writing sample, yet at the time I submitted my application it was listed as complete and writing samples were not part of the initial application. So I'm wondering why it now says I should give a writing sample and whether this is universal. Obviously, I am aware that offers must have been made by now.

Any news? (3/6)

Not yet. (3/7)
