The Eugene S. The successful candidate will have expertise in sports media production, with a preference for those with experience in producing live sports.

In addition, we have a desire for candidates who have scholarly, creative or teaching interests in one or more of the following: 1) Race + Sports Media/Journalism, 2) Esports, 3) Podcasting

We seek candidates whose research, teaching and/or service have prepared them to contribute to engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students, faculty, and staff. Requirements:

For consideration as an assistant/associate professor, the candidate must have a terminal degree (e.g. – MFA, PhD) in Journalism/Mass Communication or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional experience will be considered for a professional practice faculty position.

Expectations:

An assistant/associate professor would be expected to teach 9 credit hours per semester and produce peer-reviewed scholarly publications or creative works. A professional practice faculty member would be expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester and engage in creative work.

The Sports Media program is a fast-growing and innovative major, and Indianapolis is an ideal sports town for the program. Students have opportunities to work with the Indy sports scene, and internship opportunities abound in the Indianapolis area with professional and amateur sports organizations, including the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers, the Indiana Fever, the Indianapolis 500, and the NCAA national headquarters. The Department of Communication Studies at TCNJ invites outstanding applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in emerging communication technologies and social media to begin in Fall, 2021. We are seeking a colleague whose teaching and research focuses on the uses and effects of emerging communication technologies and social media. A PhD in communication or related fields is required. (ABD status will be considered; however, degree must be conferred prior to start date).

Specifically, we seek to build strength in the areas of human-machine communication, social media and mobile communication, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, and games. The candidate’s teaching and research can address concepts and fundamental processes central to the above mentioned digitally-mediated communication, and the social, behavioral, and/or psychological impact of one or more of these communication technologies. Candidates whose research programs have the potential to make social influence and social change are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should complement the strengths of existing faculty whose specialties lie in mediated communication and social influence, emerging communication technologies, interpersonal and leadership communication, and health and wellness communication. The ideal candidate will create innovative, interdisciplinary research with multiple methods (traditional quantitative and qualitative, and emerging research methods) and offer courses that bridge academia and practice. Industry experience and grant seeking abilities is a plus. The candidate should be committed to promoting diverse and underrepresented voices.

A typical semester teaching load is three courses. All new faculty members will automatically participate in the New Faculty Support of Scholarship (NFSS) program, which provides a 2/3 (or 3/2) academic year teaching load in two of the first years at TCNJ. After three years, faculty can apply for the Support of Scholarly Activities (SOSA) program, which provides opportunities for faculty to earn a one-course teaching release annually to support student and faculty research.

We seek a talented, publicly engaged scholar whose research provokes challenging and necessary conversations about the linkages between racism and digital media. Candidates whose scholarship is situated in either historical or contemporary contexts, and those working in any of the discipline’s theoretical and methodological traditions, are encouraged to apply. University of Connecticut - Assistant Professor in Health Communication and Inequality

The Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut welcomes applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in health communication, inequality, and social justice. The position will be based on our Storrs campus and will begin on August 23, 2021. This scholar would have a research focus on issues of difference, inequality, and identity as they impact health communication, broadly defined to include interpersonal and health, technology and health, or health campaigning.

Successful candidates will demonstrate interest and expertise in specific areas of scholarly and/or creative research such as anti-racist performance, performance in activism and racial justice movements, performance as a means of documenting and representing black lives, and/or other areas of performance studies that engage with racial inequity and promote social justice. Candidates must have a PhD in communication, sociology, computational social science, network science, information science, or a related area. Candidates must have a demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates must have an emerging reputation in a social science-related field and will demonstrate research excellence through the submitted research statement; the demonstrated ability to attract research funding; a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant scholarly journals; and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Other evidence of research excellence such as presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, will also be considered.

Excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by the teaching dossier outlining experience and accomplishments. The dossier must include a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations.
