Tenure-track assistant professor, specialty in children’s and young adult literature. Successful applicant expected to maintain an active record of publication and to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization. Teaching assignments will include upper-level children’s and adolescent literature survey courses and core English courses, such as first-year composition and/or introductory literature surveys taught in a large lecture setting. Teaching may include other courses in literature within the successful candidate’s areas of interest, with preference given to research/teaching in under-represented areas in children’s and young adult literature, including (but not limited to) African-American literature, literature of the African diaspora, Latinx literature, Native American literature, and LBGTQ literature. Appointment begins Fall 2020.
Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. in English or closely related field that meets accreditation requirements, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English and degree completed at time of appointment.
• Specialization in children’s and young adult literature.
• Demonstrated teaching excellence.
• Experience teaching first-year college writing and/or other core English courses.
• Background and/or experience commensurate with the position of assistant professor and sufficient to teach graduate courses in children’s and young adult literature.
• Demonstrated ability in scholarly research on children’s and young adult literature and culture.
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to teach under-represented areas in children’s and young adult literature, including (but not limited to) African-American literature, literature of the African diaspora, Latinx literature, Native American literature, or LBGTQ literature, as well as core courses in English (first-year composition, large introductory literature surveys).
• Ability to teach history of the literature written for young readers.
• Ability to teach upper-level children’s and adolescent survey courses.

National University of Ireland Galway - Lecturer in Contemporary Literature (YA listed as desirable specialism)[]
Applications are invited for a full-time permanent appointment as Lecturer Above the Bar in English (Contemporary Literature) at NUI Galway.
The appointee will teach and research in the area of Contemporary Literature. They will also be expected to contribute to one or more of the following strategic development areas: Literature of North America; Global/World Literatures; Young Adult Literature; Digital Humanities; Ecocriticism. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field and have experience in third-level teaching.
The discipline of English is the largest in the School of English and Creative Arts, with over 1000 undergraduates, 80 MA students and 30 PhD students. We teach a broad undergraduate curriculum, touching on all major historical periods and genres, and we run five taught MA programmes: the MA in English, MA in Literature and Publishing, MA in Culture and Colonialism, MA in Writing, and MA in Digital Cultures. Our staff also contribute to other programmes in Journalism, Creative Writing, Theatre Studies, Irish Studies and Digital Arts and Technology. Staff in English are closely associated with NUI Galway’s Moore Institute for Research in Humanities and Social Studies. There is a highly active research culture in English, and our staff have won major funding awards from the European Research Council, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme and the Irish Research Council. For the past two years we have been ranked among the top 150 English departments in the QS World University rankings.
For this post we are seeking a colleague who will contribute to developing our curriculum in Contemporary Literature, and assist us in developing new programmes of teaching and research. Applicants are invited to demonstrate how they would enhance our existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and how they would develop an innovative research agenda within English and across other disciplines if appropriate.

Limited Term Appointment for Assistant Professor
The Department of English at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a 9 month Limited Term Appointment for a specialist in children’s literature at the rank of Assistant Professor. The term of the appointment is from September 1, 2020 to May 30, 2021. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The teaching load will include first-year introductory courses. An ability to teach a class on children’s visual media would be considered an asset. Ph.D. preferred.
