Anyone hear anything?

- References were sent in hardcopy as part of the application package, so the above update makes no logical sense. I wonder where this person gets his/her information, as it seems patently incorrect?
- I took it to mean they would be contacting the references that were already supplied - i.e. phoning, emailing, etc.
- I did, too, but since references already provided letters in hardcopy, it would seem that they're now asked to go over and above what is normally expected of references. Perhaps, the committee will contact them, but that seems unusual to me.
- The information might come from somebody in HR who's not familiar with the academic hiring process. Contacting references is pretty standard in other fields.
- Yes, contacting references. This process is standard for our searches. Because we typically don't interview candidates at MLA, it allows us to narrow the pool for the campus interview stage.

Minimum requirements are a PhD in English Literature, a good teaching record, and a clearly defined research agenda.
The English Language and Literature Department currently consists of six full-time faculty members, teaching an undergraduate programme that covers British, Irish and postcolonial literature, and ranges from the Anglo-Saxons to the present day. We have particular research and teaching strengths in Victorian Literature, postcolonial literature and theory, and the Renaissance.
Bilkent University was founded in 1984 with the fundamental aim of creating a centre of excellence in higher education and research. - Search Committee Chair, here. Obviously, the timing of this search is a bit strange: not many schools run TT searches that begin in late April. But, we had one of our Brit Lit profs announce her departure recently, so we have begun this search ASAP (as soon as we got through the various steps to receive official approval for the search). I never quite knew what this sort of language meant when I was on the job market, but in this case we plan to move as quickly as possible with the search. - To the above, actually Interfolio only assigns the label "official transcripts" if you have your school(s) mail the transcripts to the interfolio offices (unless your school does electronic delivery, which none of mine do). Of course, you need to think quite a bit ahead to do this. Then interfolio uploads the files for you to submit for the "official transcript" request.
- you would think so, but i keep getting this message: "Only Official Transcripts can fulfill Official Transcript requirements." and then it won't let the upload complete. anyone else have this problem?
- If you're getting a different message from the school, I'd let Interfolio know about the problem: "Submit a help request via email at help@interfolio.com"
- many schools will allow you to specially request an electronic official transcript that you can hen upload to interfolio or other application programs. So, check with your school about your options. You could be saving your sanity and pocketbook.
- OK, here's the deal: Interfolio is aware of this issue but so far as I know they haven't changed the "official" requirement. And Interfolio does know the difference between a self-uploaded transcript and one that comes directly from a university, hence the blocking (as noted above). You can add the unofficial trans. under "additional documents" and submit that way.
- Friendly advice: If Pepperdine is reading this wiki (which schools often do), they will be able to match your name from your emails to the comments you left here, which started by calling them "ridiculous." It's a good way to count yourself out of the running before you apply. You might want to moderate your tone in the future.

We are seeking a British Generalist, 1800 to the present, with preference for candidates who specialize in fields after 1830. Desirable secondary specializations include transnational and global literatures, new media studies, or multi-ethnic studies. The candidate should be prepared to teach first-year composition courses as well as upper-level literature courses such as Victorian Poetry and Prose, Literary Criticism, and British Literature II. Ph.D. required at the time of appointment.
The best candidate will have experience with assessment and curriculum development as well as a record of successful teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to ongoing scholarly engagement.
Teaching load will be 4-4.

Requirements: A Ph. D. with a focus in Nineteenth or Twentieth Century British literature is required for this appointment. Degree must be in hand before a contract will be issued.

The University of New Hampshire Department of English invites applications for a one-year, benefits-eligible lectureship for the 2014-2015 academic year. We are seeking applicants who have expertise in pre-1800 British literature. The 3-3 teaching load includes composition, introduction to literary analysis, surveys of early British literature, Shakespeare, and upper-division courses in medieval, early modern, and/or 18th century literature. Successful candidates must be advanced ABD or have a Ph.D. in literature. Minimum Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in English Literature (British, preferably Renaissance, with additional expertise in postcolonial literature and theory) and relevant teaching experience.
