American Museum of Natural History (NY) - TT Position - Curator of Biological Anthropology - Deadline: 30 Nov. 2017 - INTERVIEWS SCHEDULED

The Division of Anthropology, American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), is conducting an open search for a position in Biological Anthropology with a specialization in paleoanthropology (human origins) at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Curator. This is a tenure-track position. For candidates showing notable experience and accomplishment, there is possibility of tenure at the time of appointment, pending review and determination through the Museum’s tenure process. Candidates should have a strong background and evidence of documented or potential international leadership in paleoanthropological research. AMNH Biological Anthropology collections are some of the most comprehensive in the world, offering a unique opportunity for collections research. Extensive possibilities also exist for professional interaction with colleagues at AMNH across the biological and physical sciences. AMNH curatorships are defined as research positions and evidence of an active research program is essential, ideally including an active field component. Prior experience with museum collections is also an asset.

AMNH curators are expected to maintain a high level of productivity in original research, to seek extramural funding, and to assume oversight responsibility for the management of Museum collections relevant to their areas of expertise. Other responsibilities or opportunities may include advising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, offering courses in the Museum’s Richard Gilder Graduate School, serving on academic and administrative committees, and participating in Museum-sponsored exhibits and educational programs. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. degree. Arizona State University (AZ) - TT Asst. Professor - Evolutionary Social Science - Deadline: 31 Oct. 2017 - CAMPUS INTERVIEWS SCHEDULED

The School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University invites applications for an assistant professor to join our world-leading program in evolutionary social science. We seek applicants with exceptional scholarly potential for advancing our understanding of human uniqueness, most especially those with ethnographic or genetic expertise. Anticipated start date is August 2018.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Anthropology, Evolutionary Biology, or related field by the time appointment starts. A strong record of research on the interactions between human biology and culture that is grounded in evolutionary theory, and potential for achieving high levels of research productivity and impact. Specific research topic, approach, methods, and region are open, and the candidate’s program of research may be focused in deep or more recent times, including with contemporary societies.

Desired qualifications: Include evidence of success in obtaining external funding; Classroom and online teaching experience; Experience mentoring and supporting students; Capacity to cross-teach and mentor students in anthropology and other programs offered across the School such as global health, applied mathematics, or environmental social science; Specific expertise in ethnographic fieldwork, field or laboratory studies in genetics and/or human behavior. Collaborative experiences with an interdisciplinary research team; A strong potential for success in serving the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.

Allegheny College (PA) - TT Open Rank - Global Health Studies - Deadline: review begins Nov. 1, 2017

The interdisciplinary program in Global Health Studies at Allegheny College is accepting applications for a tenure-track position, rank open, beginning in August 2018. Candidates should have a PhD or terminal degree, a strong commitment to liberal arts education, and demonstrated experience in qualitative approaches to health. Preference will be given to candidates who use an interpretive or critical approach in their teaching and research. Global Health Studies at Allegheny College encompasses both domestic and international perspectives working from a range of disciplinary approaches that underscore the environmental and social determinants of health as well as the ethical and cultural dimensions of health and development. We support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental teaching and research, community-based research, and service learning.

Teaching responsibility is 5.5 – 6 course equivalencies per year, depending on Senior Project advising, and will include participation in the core Global Health Studies courses, college-wide seminars that emphasize writing and speaking, and upper-level courses in an area of specialty, such as health policy, public health education, health disparities, maternal and child health, health geography, and program planning/evaluation. Geographic area of specialization is open, but previous experience in international settings is particularly desirable. Candidate must demonstrate: (a) a commitment to undergraduate teaching; (b) an openness to involving students in research and programming, and (c) expertise in public health at the local and/or global scale. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, ongoing scholarship, and professional development. Excellent teaching and research facilities are available.

The Department of Anthropology at Ball State University seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor of Anthropology with specialization in biological anthropology. California State University, Fresno (CA) - TT Asst. Professor - Biophysical Anthropology - Deadline: 15 Nov. 2017 - POSITION FILLED

The Department of Anthropology at California State University, Fresno, seeks to hire a biophysical anthropologist with research interests in bioarchaeology, human osteology, and forensics. The successful candidate will develop and offer BA-level courses in biophysical anthropology, including courses in the candidate's teaching and research expertise. Other responsibilities will include advising and mentoring students, research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as and engaging in university and community service. The successful candidate will work at revitalizing physical anthropology at Fresno State through teaching, student mentoring, research, and grant writing.

The Department of Anthropology emphasizes a four field, applied approach to undergraduate education with a strong tradition of mentoring students and involving them in faculty research.

Required Education: An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology or closely related field by the time of appointment (August 17, 2018) is required.

The Department of Anthropology at California State University, Sacramento invites candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biological Anthropology to begin Fall 2018. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and professional experience. This position consists of classroom teaching, research and scholarly activity, student advising and institutional and community service/contributions. We seek a broadly trained biological anthropologist specializing on primate behavior and/or ecology and primate fieldwork with an active research agenda leading to conference presentation(s) and/or peer-reviewed publication(s). S/he must demonstrate teaching experience and potential for excellence with a commitment and capacity to prepare students for a career in Anthropology through instruction and research and contribute to the diversity of the institution. The candidate’s topical and research specialization is open, but the research program must have be rigorous and have a solid foundation in evolutionary theory in Biological Anthropology and scientific approaches to anthropology.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed the doctoral degree by August 2018. The successful individual will contribute to the University mission to strengthen and support education in STEM disciplines as manifested through the following required expectations: Teach large sections of lower division major/general education courses in Introduction to Biological Anthropology (with an interest in online course design) and Introduction to Biological Anthropology Laboratory, teach existing upper division major courses in Primate Behavior and Fundamentals of Biological Anthropology, a Core Graduate Seminar in Biological Anthropology and develop courses in their specialty in support of the major and the Archaeology and Biological Anthropology (ABA) Concentration. East Carolina University (NC) - TT Assistant or Associate Professor - Biomedical Anthropology - Review begins 9 Nov. 2017 - SKYPE INTERVIEW STAGE

The Department of Anthropology at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a biomedical anthropologist for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor starting August 13, 2018. We seek applications from candidates with a field or lab-based research program that crosses disciplinary boundaries to explore biological, social, cultural, environmental, and dimensions of health and the human experience. Examples include combining forensic and cultural anthropology to address increased deaths along the U.S.-Mexico border or biocultural and medical anthropology to examine the relationships between occupational health and substance abuse.

The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory courses in general anthropology and biological anthropology as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural and biological anthropology. Appropriate service to the university, community, and profession is expected.

PhD in anthropology is required. Qualifying degree must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.  Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should have experience in securing external funding and demonstrate their potential for research and publication. Associate Professor-level applicants are expected to have active portable funding.

The University of New Mexico, Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking an innovative researcher to join an established, productive and growing department research group.  The successful candidate will both lead and be a part of research that addresses the priorities of the Department, the School of Medicine, the Health Sciences Center, the state of New Mexico and federal research agendas.  These priorities include research addressing the needs of New Mexico’s culturally diverse population, with emphasis on its medically underserved communities. The primary research for the department is in the area of health disparities.

A number of opportunities for independent and collaborative research are in place in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and within the Health Science Center with leadership by departmental faculty.  These include a nationally recognized, productive practice-based research network (PBRN), Research Involving Outpatient Settings Network (RIOS Net), an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), the Office for Community Health (OCH), a Center for Native American Health and a new College of Population Health that offers a Masters of Public Health program.  Active departmental maternal and child health and sports medicine fellowships provide additional opportunities for clinical research.  The Health Sciences Center also includes an NCI-funded cancer research and treatment center, an NCI-SEER registry and an advanced neuro-imaging center (MIND institute).  The department has an international reputation for expertise in community-based participatory research (CBPR) and for its work with Native American and Hispanic/Latino communities.  There are opportunities for collaboration with the NM Department of Health, the U.S. Public Health Service/Indian Health Service, local units of government and tribes and tribally-sanctioned organizations.

The Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at Duke University invites applications for two three-year post-doctoral positions at the Assistant Research Professor level to begin in July of 2018. Each post-doc will contribute to the department’s teaching mission by teaching two courses each semester, and each is also expected to be active in research. Teaching and research will be supported in part through mentoring by senior faculty members. The Department of Anthropology in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is recruiting for a 12-month Postdoctoral Fellow to start in May 2018 (start date is flexible). The Postdoctoral Fellow will be funded as part of a project exploring normal and pathological covariation in the masticatory apparatus of anthropoid primates, supported by an NSF award. The successful applicant will have familiarity with evolutionary theory, masticatory biomechanics, and geometric morphometric techniques. Responsibilities will include assisting with data management, data collection and analysis, contributing to scientific publications and presentatiosn disseminating the results of the research, and supervising undergraduate students. Some travel may be required. The University of Florida, Department of Anthropology enthusiastically announces a search for a nontenure track position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist in forensic anthropology, available immediately. This is a twelve-month, full-time, time-limited position, to be renewed on a year-to-year basis, contingent on funding. The successful candidate will participate in forensic casework and lab management at the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory (CAPHIL). In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on research initiatives in human biological variation, contribute to publications and requests for external funding, and pursue independent research. We seek a candidate with forensic case work experience, including independent preparation of forensic case reports. Experience with trauma analysis and field recovery methods is desirable.
