applications for a one-year Visiting Art Historian position for the 2011-2012
academic year. This is a sabbatical replacement (non-tenure track) position.
Specialist in art and architecture outside the Euro-American tradition (for
example, Art of the Americas, Africa, Asia, Islam). Must have the ability to
teach a range of courses from ancient to contemporary art in specialty field.

How is it that the exact same post regarding an update (3/2) appears under a Ren/Baroque search further down? Wikia wackiness, or is someone playing with us?
No wackiness -- my field overlaps both. The lower post is actually broader than just Ren/Baroque, and includes 19thC.

I received the most curt rejection from Drexel tonight (3 lines). I wasn't interviewed, which you'd think they would have sent my rejection email in February. Have they made their choice, btw? (4/4)

That's odd, I received a very nice rejection email a week or two ago, but I did interview with them at CAA. According to the email they have filled the position. (4/15)

Concordia University’s Department of Art History invites applications for one tenure-track position in the field of First Nations/Aboriginal Art History for July 1, 2011. We welcome applications from specialists in First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit arts and culture.

The Department of Art seeks faculty with a specialty in Ancient and Medieval Art to teach undergraduate courses in an Art History Department with two full-time faculty. In addition to contributing to introductory level courses, the faculty member will teach upper-level courses in an area of specialization focusing on the ancient world including Greek and/or Roman and Egyptian art. The courseload may also include curriculum on ancient, near east, or early Islam art, depending on faculty member's preparation. Faculty would be responsible for one course in the medieval period. • That's frustrating, and I know the bird-in-hand vs in-bush thing is hard to juggle, but in the future, I'd say go ahead and take the adjunct opportunity and then back out on them if the TT appointment comes through. I don't think anyone would really blame you, and, really, it's just an adjunct job. If they want a real commitment, they should pay for it.

Lake Forest College / Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Asian Art History

Lake Forest College seeks applicants for a 2-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Asian Art History, funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM). For the academic years 2011-2013, the Fellow will be based in the Art Department, in conjunction with the Asian Studies Program.

The fellowship is intended for a recent Ph.D. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in some area of Asian Art History awarded before September 2011. The specialization within Asian Art is open.

The Fellow will be expected to teach 3 courses per academic year, ranging from introductory courses in Art History to advanced courses in the Fellow’s specialty. This amounts to half-time teaching. With the other half of his or her working time, the Fellow will be expected to conduct post-doctoral research and to share this with the ACM and other scholarly communities. The fellowship will provide the Fellow with funding of up to $3000 annually for professional development and research and for travel to support presentations of his or her work at professional conferences. Lake Forest College will also assign an established mentor in the Fellow's field. The fellowship also funds three annual workshops for all the ACM-Mellon Fellows to help strengthen their teaching and research agendas. Salary is competitive and includes research and travel stipends.

The announcement does say 'pending budgetary approval', I wonder if they didn't get the funding for this. 1/23: I have the same worry. Granted, I don't know about you, but I sent my application materials in a box, so perhaps still sorting through them?!; Don't most or at least more than a few say "pending budgetary approval"? I assumed it was a common caveat... Note: I did get an email on 12/22 for equal opportuntiy disclosure stating that review of materials was underway. 1/24 no it's not common, and searches that have not secured the budget for the position often go ahead with the process though it might get cancelled even after the process is well underway, unfortunately. 1/25 maybe nobody here got a CAA interview .... I noticed there is nothing indicating CAA interviews for FSU either .... FSU states in the job advertisement that they are not interviewing at CAA.... Good point; I wonder if there have been campus interviews. 1/25 who knows, but if they don't intend to interview at CAA from the beginning they usually say so, I haven't heard of any campus interviews there. Helpful hint: set up an account at Academia.edu and then you can receive an alert anytime someone searches for you on Google. Heightened (or any) activity usually means that a search committee is at least looking into your application (unless other people have a reason to Google you). But then imagine the chaos that this page will become!

• For the record, they've been failing this Renaissance position for several years straight now. These losers also 'failed' their ancient search this year- they had several suitable candidates but couldn't compromise due to factionalism and would rather risk losing the position than let anyone get their way. Such behavior year after year is the best way to to degrade a department into a glorified old folks' home.
• this is not entirely accurate: an offer was made after the first Renaissance search in 2008-09, but the candidate, after waffling for months, turned it down. In 2009-10, there was no Ren search. This year, it did indeed fail. I don't know anything about the ancient search. But in the last four years Princeton has made junior hires in 19th century and ancient Greek art, and a few years before that in Northern Ren and medieval. They've also made several senior level hires in the same period. These failed searches are exceptional, not the norm.

That's odd -- why not interviewing at CAA??
