Boston College Lynch School of Education Assistant Professor of Anthropology of Formative Education & Sociocultural Foundations, begins Fall 2022

Application Deadline: apply by November 10, 2021 for full consideration; position open until filled

Description

The Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College announces a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a colleague whose scholarship emphasizes a broad vision of education and human development that encompasses the transformation of the whole person in social context – including ethical, emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual and/or interpersonal dimensions. The position is in anthropology, understood as one of the foundational humanistic disciplines of educational thought. The candidate could be appointed to any of the departments in the Lynch School, depending on specific areas of expertise. The successful applicant will have an active research program that is related to the holistic dimensions of education and human development, grounded in the discipline of anthropology, engages with contemporary educational and social theory, and is oriented to traditions of humanistic educational thought.

Priority will be given to applicants who have an established program of scholarship, who have an interest in and ability to communicate their work to broader publics as well as among scholarly peers, and whose work will contribute to innovation across the Lynch School.

What unifies our work is the aspiration to enhance the human condition, to expand the human imagination, and to make the world more just.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have disciplinary grounding in anthropology. Additional expertise in history, philosophy, and/or ethics would be an advantage. Expertise in qualitative research methods, especially ethnography, is highly desirable. Research experience working in a language other than English, outside the U.S. or in transnational contexts, is also desirable.

Application Instructions

To apply, please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, three samples of scholarly writing, evidence of successful teaching, and three letters of reference by uploading to Interfolio. For further information contact the search chair, Dr. Christopher Higgins [christopher.higgins[@]bc.edu].

Review of applications will begin November 10, 2021, and continue until the position is filled.
