The Faculty of English wishes to appoint to a University Lectureship in World or Global Literatures post 1700 from 1 September 2020.

Applicants should have research and teaching interests in writing in English in world, transnational and global fields in any period post 1700. Applicants with research and teaching interests in the following fields are especially welcome: indenture; slavery; diaspora; migration; colonialism; decolonisation; transnational or transcontinental institutions, connections or receptions; global / oceanic literatures in English (which is understood to include, but is not limited to, literary and cultural engagements with the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean worlds).

We are open to a wide range of global literatures and approaches, including interdisciplinary work within global studies, and research engaging with other forms of media.

The successful applicant will be able to conduct original research in their field, generating new interpretations, arguments, methods and associations which will have international reach and significance. They will be expected to engage closely with the work of one or more of the research groups in the Faculty and, where appropriate to the research concerned, to develop proposals to attract significant external funding. The Faculty intends to appoint a scholar whose work will make a substantial difference to the way in which the study of this area is pursued and who is able to develop the kinds of public and professional engagement that will maximise the impact of their research. Candidates should have a completed PhD and an exceptional record of research in a relevant subject area, along with high-quality publications.

The English Department at the U.S. Naval Academy seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in July 2020, in the following field: Contemporary British/Global Anglophone literature.

The Naval Academy English Department is a mix of civilians with doctorates and military officers. All tenure-track faculty teach at all levels of the curriculum, including upper-level courses for English majors and sections of our two-semester freshman English sequence, Rhetoric and Introduction to Literature. The freshman courses—which are both introductions to literature and writing courses—are organized generically: plays, essays, and short stories in the fall; novels and poems in the spring. Each instructor designs an individual syllabus and chooses which books to teach within the generic guidelines.

Teaching Load: 9 hours/semester (two sections of freshman English and one upper-level literature course)

Full summer research support may be available for the first three years of new appointments; after that, civilians may receive partial research support by competing for Naval Academy Research Council grants. The Department of English at UNLV seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Global Anglophone/Contemporary British Multiethnic Literatures. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in and beyond field of specialization. Appointment will begin in fall 2020.

The English Department at UNLV houses several scholarly and creative journals, including MELUS, The Ben Jonson Journal, and Popular Culture Review. The English Department is also closely affiliated with the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute (BMI), an international literary center bringing writers into the heart of public life. BMI publishes The Believer and Witness.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in literature, to begin fall 2020. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and a strong commitment to education in a liberal arts environment is essential.

Areas of interest might be, but are not limited to: global anglophone literature; transnational literary and cultural studies; comparative indigenous studies; digital humanities; material culture studies. The typical teaching load for research-active faculty is three courses per semester.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements: PhD, or equivalent degree in literature, or a closely related field, by August 2020.

ACLS-University of Kentucky Postdoctoral Partnership Fellowship (US: KY)--Global Anglophone literature and culture, 20th-21st centuries[]

The Department of English at the University of Kentucky is pleased to announce the ACLS-University of Kentucky Postdoctoral Partnership Fellowship, made possible by a generous grant from the American Council of Learned Societies with funds provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The duration of the postdoctoral fellowship is two years, after which we expect the fellow to transition into a tenure-track faculty position at the University of Kentucky. The fellowship is designed to increase the diversity, broadly conceived, of faculty in the humanities. More information on this program is available at https://www.acls.org/programs/ppi/.

The Department of English seeks an emerging scholar in global anglophone literature and culture, 20th-21st centuries. We hope to attract applicants with research and teaching interests that extend beyond continental North America and Great Britain, including colonial and postcolonial cultures. English literatures of Africa and Asia and their diasporas would be especially welcome, although anyone with a global approach to literary study is strongly encouraged to apply. Scholars who work in multiple languages will receive full consideration if anglophone literature and culture are significant among the applicant's areas of expertise.

University of Southern Denmark (EU:Den) - Associate Professor in Contemporary Anglophone Literature[]

The Department for the Study of Culture in the faculty of the Humanities at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a full-time tenured associate professorship in contemporary anglophone literature with an emphasis on the uses and social dimensions of literature, starting January 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position entails research, teaching in anglophone literature in the English study programme and associated study programmes as well as supervision and administration.

Successful applicants must have a PhD in the field of contemporary anglophone literary studies ideally with an emphasis on the social uses of literature; a track record of excellent peer reviewed publications (published or accepted for publication) in relevant and high ranked international outlets; a realistic approximate 5-year-plan for future, original path-breaking research within the field of the uses and social dimensions of literature as well as plans to secure external funding for such a project; documented and proven excellence in teaching in anglophone literature across periods, as well as participation in developing actual literature teaching both at BA and MA level and knowledge and ambitions to contribute to research in university didactics; documented efforts at achieving and new ideas and ambitions for seeking societal impact of research and teaching.

The ideal candidate is both strong as individual scholar and has a track record of participating in and adding value to research groups and environments.

If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months. Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes.
