do others find themselves in the following situation: I have not been contacted, but my application, which used to say "complete" now says "incomplete" and it says on Interfolio that a writing sample is required, which was not the case before. So something has changed in terms of the profile, but I have heard nothing. Has this happened to everyone? (x5) A: As one of the above who was contacted for more info, that is what it looked like. I never received an email from Dartmouth directly, but only from Interfolio saying that more info was now requested of me. Looks like Interfolio screwed up in forgetting to send you an alert. It DOES sound like a request for more info. Best.

  • --I wasn't contacted, and my Interfolio account also now says it's incomplete. I'm not sure if it's worth contacting someone to find out? <--let us know what you find out, if you do.
  • --So far, everyone who has responded has noted that their Interfolio account now lists "Incomplete" for the application. However, Interfolio will not let me submit the further materials that are listed as missing. Unless someone has applied *and* does *not* see a space for these further materials, I'm willing to bet everyone's application will now look like this, and only those with real requests will actually be able to upload said materials. Then again, maybe they have tagged our applications but have not yet asked Interfolio to send out the request.
  • --I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's probably just an issue with Interfolio.
  • I looked again (Poster from above with an emailed request from interfolio). My status now says "More materials requested" in addition to incomplete. Hope this helps. Best of luck to all.  (Thanks for the heads-up!  I emailed them today as well and have yet to hear back.)
  • --Seems like this one is done with additional requests. It's been a while since the initial one.

NOTES AND QUERIES:

  • Also posted at Modern British 2015 and 20-21 c. American 2015
  • I find it very interesting that these people advertise this position every year like an annual gala event! What could this continous failed search mean year after year?!
  • Not a failed search. 3 different jobs. They definitely hired someone the first year and I suspect they did the same last year.
    • I can confirm that they definitely filled all three positions (2 in English, 1 in English/comp lit) over these past two years. TBH I think it's not a bad thing that the (recurring) ad is pretty basic, as opposed to asking for some bizarre assortment of specializations -- clearly they just want someone doing interesting work. And at least they're really committed to hiring TT 20th c. people! (12/3)
  • While it is true that closely similar versions of this position have been posted repeatedly over the last several years, it's also the case that one of these positions is intended to replace a faculty member who passed away last fall (heard through the grapevine). [09/26]
  • Bahaha, the annual Yale hiring a 20th century British faculty member gala event! I had the same thought. Maybe they hire people each year but "take care of them" if they don't work out. Any Modernists gone missing? Check under the floorboards!
  • 12/2 - Actually not a joke. This is the incident referred to above: LINK
