The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main will be filling the position of Professor (W3) for American Literature and Culture, beginning in the winter semester of 2020/2021.

We expect that the candidate's expertise represents the entire breadth of American Literature and Culture, both in teaching and in terms of research and publications. Candidates will also need to demonstrate expertise in aesthetics, literary theory, and media history. We seek candidates with an internationally established research profile, as reflected in publications in leading international publications.

We expect that the appointee will participate in and initiate research projects with other researchers across disciplines, work as part of institutional committees, and passionately contribute to university life and the life of the department. The position will be part of the course of study titled "American Studies" in the MA-tier program "Aesthetics" and will also teach literature courses to future teachers of English. Accordingly, it is preferable that the candidate can convey didactic and pedagogic strategies for integrating the literature course content into secondary school curricula.

Södertörns högskola (Södertörn University) in south Stockholm is a dynamic institute of higher education with a unique profile and high academic standard. Job description The position includes teaching, supervision, and responsibility for courses and course development at first and second cycle levels (Bachelor’s and Master’s levels). A significant amount of teaching focuses on Teacher Education.

Basic Qualifications An individual is qualified for employment as Senior Lecturer if he/she has proven teaching skills and possesses a doctorate in English, specializing in American literature or has the equivalent scholarly expertise or other professional skills that are of significance to the position’s demands and job description. Teaching is primarily conducted in English, but the applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within the first two years of employment.

Coursework or training in higher education teaching, or the equivalent, is advantageous.

Grounds for assessment The grounds for assessment when employing a senior lecturer is the degree of expertise required to be eligible for the position. University of Indiana, Kokomo (USA:In) - Assistant Professor of English, American Lit[]

The English and Language Studies Department at Indiana University Kokomo invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of English position beginning January 2, 2020. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English, or closely related discipline, with a specialization in American literature, in hand by start January 2nd. Candidates specializing in any area of American literature are encouraged to apply. An appropriate level of university, professional, and community service is required, such as committee work, assessment of the major, and engagement in campus initiatives to increase retention and enrollment.

The course load will be three sections per semester. In addition, the preference will be given to candidates who can assume the role of Editor-in-Chief of our student publication journal Field. One course release per semester is granted to take on this role. The preference for teaching for this position is American literature survey, specialized American literature courses, and other classes as needed, but related areas will be considered. Publication is required for promotion and tenure, and for maintaining a 3/3 load after tenure.

 The Department of Western Languages and Literatures at Boğaziçi University invites applications for a full-time position of Assistant Professor of literature in English to be filled by a Turkish national starting in the academic year of 2021-2022. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate active scholarship with excellent teaching. PhD thesis defense is required by June 30, 2020. King's College London (EU:UK:Eng) - Lecturer in American Literature (2 years)[]

The Department of English wishes to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in American Literature (Academic Education Pathway) for a period of 24 months from 1 September 2019. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach on a range of undergraduate modules. These will include teaching on the survey modules in American Literature - the first-year Introduction to American Literature and the second-year Early American Literature - as well as the modules US Slavery & the Literary Imagination and Intellectuals of the Black Atlantic.

Other teaching will include Reading Poetry as well as working with students on essay writing and supervising BA & MA Dissertations.

The post-holder will be involved in personal tutoring and some academic administration. They will play a full part in the intellectual life of the Department, including departmental sessions on research, professional development and pastoral care.

This post will be offered on a full time, 24-month fixed term contract.
