Eureka College (IL) - TT Assistant Professor of American Literature

Eureka College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of American Literature starting Fall 2016. The normal teaching load is four courses (12 semester hours) per semester. All department members are expected to teach general education, survey, and composition courses in addition to courses within their specializations. Interdisciplinary courses, like first-year or senior seminars, or an occasional honors course, may also be taught.

Position Requirements: Specialization in an area before the 19th century is preferred. Attractive secondary areas include cultural studies, media studies and women’s studies. The candidate must possess a Ph.D. by August 15, 2016; teaching experience at a residential liberal arts college preferred.

Ashoka University (INDIA) - TT Faculty in American Literature

We are looking to fill three positions in the English department: Film Studies, American Literature, and Postcolonial Literatures. All positions are rank open, and we will consider applications for both tenured and tenure-track posts.

For the position in Film Studies, we are looking for a scholar to cover World Cinema with a specialisation in one or more of the following fields: film theory, postcolonial film, contemporary cinema. Interest and expertise in digital media is a plus. Classes to be offered will depend on the successful candidate’s expertise, but will need to include Film Theory as well as more specialised classes on national/regional/auteur cinema.

The successful candidate in American Literature will ideally be able to cover the historical sweep of North American literature while focusing on one or more of the following areas: slave narratives, trans-Atlantic literature, literature of the Pacific Rim, African-, Asian-, and Latin-American literatures. Interest and expertise in popular culture would be a plus, but is not required. Classes to be offered will depend on the successful candidate’s expertise, but will need to include a survey course on North American Literature, as well as more specialised courses on theoretical and historical trends in American literature.

The successful candidate in Postcolonial Literatures would ideally be comfortable with a broad sweep of literatures from around the world in addition to focusing on one or more of the following areas: Translation Studies, Subcontinental literatures, African literatures, Francophone literatures. Interest and expertise in Indian vernacular literatures and popular culture is a plus. Classes to be offered will depend on the successful candidate’s expertise, but will need to include a course on Postcolonial Theories and Texts, as well as classes on Literatures in Translation.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The Department of English seeks a specialist in North-American literature and the environment with a strong background in eco-criticism and eco-humanities. The successful candidate will develop and teach courses in environmental literature and eco-criticism in the undergraduate and graduate program, and other coursework within the Department of English as assigned.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty and students in English and across disciplines including those in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Carthage College (WI) - TT Faculty - American Lit. and Creative Writing - CAMPUS INTERVIEW STAGE

Carthage College seeks an active teacher-scholar specializing in American literature, with experience in creative writing, for a tenure-track position starting in fall 2016. Candidates should have Ph.D. in hand by that time. The position involves teaching three courses per semester, as well as January term. Course load will be approximately two-thirds in American literature, including a survey of American literature and upper-level courses of your choice (we welcome subspecialties in early American, 19th century, American modernism, African American literature, or other aspects of American studies), and one-third in creative writing (fiction and creative nonfiction).

The Carthage English Department is small and collegial, with a stable and popular major, and a growing number of students who choose the emphasis in creative writing. Departmental activities include a visiting writers series, humanities colloquia, and an annual trip to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Springfield College (MA) - Instructor of Literature (incl. 20th c. and Contemporary American Lit. - 2 Positions)

Springfield College invites applications for one-year appointments as an Instructor of Literature (2 appointments) in the Humanities Department for the 2016-2017 Academic Year.

The College is seeking two generalists to teach courses in 20th Century and Contemporary American literature and College Writing. Responsibilities include teaching four courses per semester. Experience in teaching Asian American literature, American short story and/or Modern American poetry desirable.

Qualifications include a Master's Degree or higher in English or a related field and a minimum of three years of experience teaching literature and composition at the college level.
