  • Also posted at Other Ethnic American 2016
  • Does anyone know what to make of "syllabi for two courses taught?"  Do they actually want documents for the courses we've taught in the past—course policies and all?  Or just sample syllabi?  Haven't seen this before...
  • It is unusual--I'm sure they don't need to see the full syllabus (no course policies etc.) but I suspect that since they mention teaching exp at the grad level as a "preferred" qualification, they might be looking for more advanced junior candidates who have a range of syllabi from courses they've actually taught. I think if you don't have a syllabus you've actually taught that seems appropriate, just send a sample.
  • yeah, this is awful. also: I heard that they didn’t even let the candidates know that ten folks were being brought in (and not the usual 3-4). they had to stumble across it on the department website. pretty dehumanizing, and pretty far from transparent.
  • I also know a candidate who stumbled across their name on this list while randomly googling. Holding 10 job talks seems incredibly taxing for the dept. and doesn't make much sense *unless* there are actually 2 positions available here. Does anyone know if they got an extra line?
  • Interesting thought. Also interesting that they have now taken down the list; or at least the link above no longer works... oops?
